A real mixed bag of reviews, from love it to hate it, and I can kind of see where both sides are coming from.
Personally, I liked this book because I'm a time-travel fan anyway.
And what gives it a genuine time travel feel about it, a touch of realism (even though time travel
isn't real), is the fact that poor old Henry has no control whatsoever over his time travelling.
Bang! he's gone, and Ouch! he arrives naked!!!
And the other oddity but interesting touch is that the time travelling occurs at varying stages in his life,
and he develops a relationship with Clare, who, pardon the pun, doesn't know if she's coming or going.
Clare might be 6 years old and Henry appears in his 40's, then Clare will be 22 and Henry 28.It's a real mixed
bag of meetings between the two. But to a non time travel fan this backwards and forwards could be quite annoying,
and as disorientating as time travelling itself.
If you analyse the story afterwards not an awful lot happens, but I guess it's like viewing a normal relationship
that is anything but normal! If that sounds gobbledygook, it fits rather nicely into this scenario.
And finally, one saving grace, one little helping hand, at the beginning of each chapter the reader is informed of
both their ages at that particular time in the story.
Just to give us poor readers a fighting chance.
This book just didn't merit 5 stars for me. I gave it 2 for originality & minus 3 for being so dull and missing out on being sparkling.
