As comforting as a soft blanket and warm as a goodnight hug, Eric Metaxas' lullaby comes to life on this wonderful new audiobook combining two fabulous stories: On the Night You Were Born (a New York Times bestseller) and Its Time to Sleep, My Love. The program features original music composed and performed by Sally Taylor, daughter of music legends James Taylor and Carly Simon and mother of new son, Bodhi. "It's Time to Sleep, My Love" is a 2009 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

I had to listen to it several times because it did not leave a
lasting impression on me. The narration seemed very forced and
unnatural. It was also pretty repatitive, which is common in children's books, but this was repeptative even between the two books.
My infant son did fall asleep during the CD so I will say that as a lullaby CD it did work. It is nice to have something with words rather than just soft lullaby music. The original music was nice and soothing.
I would probably rate this product higher if it came with the books.
The poems were nice in content, but the delivery left a little to be desired. This CD did not come along with a book but yet there were "ding" cues in the audio for when you are supposed to turn the page. It was annoying to listen to the constant "dings" without having a book to refer to. I think the CD should have come with a booklet that had the words and some pictures. And the dings were super loud and harsh -- disturbing the calming atmosphere created by the story, the narrator's voice, and the light piano music in the background.
I expect this CD would be very relaxing to children if there were no "ding" cues in the book. I think the bell rings mess up the entire atmosphere and I can't imagine a young one being able to ignore those harsh rings.
My advice is for the publisher to get rid of the bell rings and supply a book with the CD. Then this would be a really great set.
It's Time to Sleep, My Love follows with the same dull piano music, but the story is sweet if you can get past the syrupy narrator's voice. I actually enjoyed the sung version of this one, however. Unfortunately, it's the ONLY part of the CD I liked without reservation. The lovely song is followed by more reading with the book they assume you have and more grating bell ringing. The incessant bell-ringing is NOT conducive to sleeping, to which the story theoretically is leading the reader.
Let me just say that I was VERY glad when it was over and have no plans to listen to it again.
Geese, lions, bears and other animals come to life with Sally's clear depiction on "The night you Were born". Good night kisses and listening to this cd will have children in a happy, sleepy mood, just the thing to get children drifting off into sleep in comfort.
The poetry is perfect and simple for little ones.
"It's Time to Sleep, My Love" cooes the sleepy turtle dove. The little animal images Sally introduces to the children wind down children's minds, even agitated, hurried minds.
Just enough time, not too long nor short for a lullaby.
I recommend this highly for small children.
