TOP 1000 REVIEWERon 30 August 2015
This collection is a great idea - a set of country walks all reachable for a day trip from London, with details of how to get there and back as well as details of the walks themselves and advice on places to stop for lunch and so on. Thanks to the speed of trains 'near London' stretches out some way, such as to Dover, and some of the days are quite long, but they are all doable by public transport (and walking!) in a day.

There is a website linked to the book, which provides much of the information in the book - but not enough to make the book redundant. The main advantage of the website - http://www.walkingclub.org.uk/book_2/ - is that it provides the overall travel instructions in easy to print, clear sets of steps and using information which has been updated since the book came out.

The walks are not short - there's only two at 5 miles or under, and plenty that are over 10 miles.

Best walking guide ever! I would defy anyone to get lost when out walking with this guide. It is so clear and detailed that you don't really need a map at all. The walks are in great locations and this edition is more driver friendly giving suggestions for where to park the car if it is more convenient than doing the whole journey by train. Regular updates to the walks on the internet ensure their continued accuracy and the pubs/ tea shops chosen are the best!

Fantastic book with absolutely delightful photographs. The directions are easy to follow and information about trains is accurate. A must have for Londoners who would like to get a day break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Real treat for those who would like to explore English countryside. One of my most oft-used books and a welcome present for my friends and family.

I've only done one walk so far but the book is great, and I didn't get lost! Really detailed descriptions and I like the food/pub/places to see bits too.

If you like walking within fairly reach of London, you will find this book and its accompanying volume inspiring. It sets out walks in considerable detail and it is updated from time to time.

Found the instructions on this book very easy to follow and very accurate...sometimes it is nice to get lost and find your own way back, have some fun...when you have the time and not yet walked 30+km, but generally don't like getting lost and instead relay on good and accurate instructions. Well done!

This is an extraordinary book. the book guides you to the most beautiful places and gives such precise directions you dont even need to have a map to wander the countryside. And the pubs are a treat. Plus you can do it all without a car. Amazing.

The timeout Country Walks books are fantastic! Having done a couple of the walks already - they are very easy to follow, rate the walks difficulty, show shortcuts if required, start and end at train stations and show a good bunch of pubs along the way. Will be getting a lot of use come summer.
