5.0 out of 5 stars Werewolves, other paranormals, action mystery=success 3 Jan. 2013

This is the first book of the Paranormal Security Council Series.Voltaire is a Paranormal with strong powers, yet she doesn't even know what she is. She has been haunted of dreams of a werewolf and knows what it means but doesn't really want to be tied to a mate. She realizes her mate is now in trouble so she goes and finds him. Blake her mate is in the middle of a war. When she shows up he recognizes her as his mate but not knowing what she is or why she shows up at such a critical time isn't sure he can trust her. Do they get together? What is Voltaire? I am not gonna tell you! You will have to read the book. Trust me you will thank me for this one!
If you like books about werewolves, soul mates, other new types of paranormal beings, a deep mystery, and lots of action, this has the best of both worlds rolled up and threw into a mystery with lots of action. Well written and fast paced you won't want to put it down until you are finished.
I highly recommend this to anyone that likes shifter, werewolves, action, new types of paranormal and hot sex!

Ok I have to say once again Avril Ashton is off the chain good. This book kept my attention from the first page till the last. Entrancing and sexy characters who you fall in love with immediately. Action packed from page one.

Voltaire is a volatile character, but you can also sense the vulnerability in her and you want her to succeed in whatever she does. With the mouth of a sailor, ash white hair and a blue and a gold eye she casts a beautiful figure of a woman. Though what kind of being she is, isn't quite understood by her or anyone else for that matter. Her psychic abilities are nothing to sneeze at either.

Blake wow what can I say about him. He is one sexy shifter wolf male that cares deeply for those he wishes to protect and that comes to include Voltaire even though he doesn't trust her. But even with the mistrust Blake is drawn to Voltaire and cannot help himself when it comes to claiming her as his own true mate.

The plot is well developed and keeps one guessing as to what will happen next. A book with a heroine that can kick butt and in heels no less has my vote as one great read. Filled with exciting twists and turns

Voltaire and Blake both have Alpha tendencies and it makes for a on your toes exciting read as you wonder whom will give in to whom. A very believable love story. Once more proving to the naysayers that you can have erotica and romance in the same book. Would I get an Avril Ashton book again? The answer is a big sounding Yes! She never disappoints. Her stories are always sexy, gritty, dark, fun, loving and erotic all the things one wants in an erotic romance paranormal. And the urban humor in her stories make it seem down to earth and realistic. This book is steamy, sexy and filled with those moments that will have you sighing or catching your breath. Cheers to Avril Ashton, she has made me smile yet again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Till Abandon 21 April 2012

The characters and plot were well developed. The book was Steamy and held my interest all the way to the end. The Death Bringer finally goes to her mate after 5 yrs. I liked the fact that they fell together so fast, tired of all the angst between mates in a lot of pnr.
The pain that Voltaire went through to open herself up to her mate was well done and believable. It's one I'll reread.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new or interesting 9 Feb. 2013

Did I read a different book? As a schoolgirl fantasy diary, I'd grade this about a B-. For adult readers paying real money, it's a trainwreck. The author appears to have just gone down a checklist and grabbed random plot items like a spoiled kid in a candy store:
-platinum blond, petite, kick-ass heroine...can't decide if her eyes should be gold or lavender? No worries, just go with one of each.
-our kick-ass heroine, rides a kick-ass motorcycle, is the head of a kick-ass enforcer group, for the kick-ass paranormal council, of the kick-ass paranormal community of kick-ass...yeah, she's a bad-ass (not).
-a nice grocery list of physical & mental 'super powers', that don't seem to help her resolve the plot.
-an all white wardrobe and designer shoes only described by brand name. She arrives in town with only a backpack, but the hero keeps shredding her clothes before sex...so where are all the new clothes coming from?
-predictable nicknames, he's Wolf and she's (wait for it) Death Bringer.
-insta-love & insta-mate *head-desk*
-Kinky sex toys (used with others not the hero)
-Crying(both main characters) I think they revolk your bad-ass card for all this crying.
-the studly hero only wears sweatpants and yesterday's tee shirt (be still my heart)
-inconsistent characterizations...the heroine is less bad-ass and more prom queen...note the wardrobe previously mentioned, in addition to the hair flipping, crying, dripping, and other girly descriptions.
-despite several mentions of the heroine involved in sex with others, she's a virgin with the hero/insta-mate.
-sopping wet girly parts *mercy please, the eyerolls be killing me*
-and the plot checklist continues, starting with the insta-love/mate, and moving onto insta-sex, the big misunderstanding, make up sex, saving her/his life, death of the BFF, comfort sex, revenge, threatening our boss and co-workers (over wrong information), showing off for the pack mates, scenes with no purpose other than showing off (posers), affirmation sex...ugh, the immaturity goes on and on.
-Can't bring myself to go back and re-read any part of it, but I really don't remember a resolution to the conflict (minimal and contrived tho it was). And the ending is narrated like the author just ran out of steam.

I'd like to request some grown up main characters please, it's been a very difficult struggle to force myself to finish this book.

To summarize, there's nothing new here...neither a unique arrangement or presented creatively.
