So, one thing you need to know about Bella Jewel before you go into reading one of her books - they are like crack. You open it up, think you’ll just do a little, then before you know it a huge pile of time has vanished and you’ve finished, and are left wanting more.
I’m pleased to say that Til Death is no exception to that rule.
So, if you’ve been reading the Jokers Wrath MC series and are up to date with that (ie you’ve read Anguish the last one out), then you will know who Marcus is, who is our main character in this book. I hadn’t managed to get time to read Anguish before I read this book, but straight away I hopped back in time on my kindle, swallowed that baby up so i’m fully on board with the story. To be fair, Anguish doesn’t give you much in the way of Marcus’ story, so you don’t really lose much if you haven’t read Anguish or if you read them backwards like me.
Anyway, back to the story. Marcus is a player. Like a total slutty man whore who doesn’t do any kind of close relationship. So the worse thing that could happen to him would be to chuck him into a serious relationship, right? Well his father was obviously some kind of joker, as at the reading of the will, he discovers that he will only inherit his father’s business, if he gets married within a year and then stays married for two years.
Marcus hasn’t worked his arse off for ten years to come up empty, so he set about to find the perfect wife for the job. Enter Katia, the best friend of one of Marcus’ employees. Katia is perfect. She’s loyal and beautiful and has all of the makings of a perfect wife. So Marcus sets out to make her just that.Read more ›
I love how Bella has penned these characters, the perfect mix of broody arrogance with Marcus and the perfect mix of happy kindness that exudes from Katia. But it’s definitely not just the two main people who make up this book Pierre and Walter also bring with them drama and suspense. And what is Yasmin up to?
One thing I find with Bella’s books and I mean EVERY one of them is the immediate immersion into the story and scenery. It’s like insta love and bam I am hooked and I can’t put her books down once I start.
Til’ Death is no exception, the drama surrounding The Will and the wait for when the Sh!t is going to hit the fan is all building and culminating towards nuclear proportions and then that ending! ARGHHHHHH, Bella I hope you are writing book two quickly, I HAVE to know what happens next!
'Til then I’ll have to wait ☺
Please can we have another Jokers Wrath book? Maybe Tyke and Pippa???
Yes I get that from Marcus' point of view, he was looking for someone he could manipulate for a couple of years and not be too demanding or annoying. But he knew Katia was totally head-over-heels in love with him and he still treated her with utter contempt. Yes they had a good sex life and there was no mention of him being with other women, so he was faithful. But emotionally he was like a wet fish...he gave her nothing.
Poor Katia, couldn't understand why she stayed, yet couldn't bring herself to leave. She wondered constantly what she had done for him to treat her as nothing. That's what menatl abuse does to someone, it makes them think it's their fault and that really is a cruel thing to do to someone who obviously loves you.
So why the five stars then? Well I cannot fault the way the story was told. I liked being inside both of their heads to see what each were thinking. When realisation hit her, I liked seeing Katia's reaction. I enjoyed watching the inner turmoil that Marcus had in his black heart.
Bella Jewel writes with a passion for her characters; that is obvious by the way the emotions resonate off the pages. Whether you love to love a character, or love to hate a character, there's no denying Ms Jewel's ability to suck you into their lives.
This is part one of two and I hope in book two she doesn't let Marcus off the hook too easily!!
Really unexpected turn of events in this book - and can't wait for the resolution of the cliffhanger. Having read many of Ms Jewel's books, I guess I had preconceptions. I was expecting nasty, dark, but instead there is ... an unequal situation which will probably remind most of us of times in our lives - even if nothing quite so dramatic. I found it to be addictive reading, because it was different. Read it, and see what I mean!
Please release the follow on very soon, I am fascinated by this train crash of a marriage.
