Product Description

Product Description

The latest entry in the highly successful Tiger Woods golf franchise from Electronic Arts, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 features 15 golf courses (11 real courses, 3 fantasy courses), 15 real golfers (including Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh), and 12 fantasy golfers. Courses can be "Tiger-proofed" to make them more challenging. Players can work their way through a PGA career, they can chase Tiger Woods through all the major historical eras of golf, or they can engage in the usual array of game modes seen in previous entries in this series.

Manufacturer's Description

"Strong wind in my face... Smooth swing... People are watching... I don't want to shank it." Earning the prestigious title of #1 Golfer of All Time can be a nerve racking process and it's exactly what gamers will experience in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06 as they fight off more than just pressure but also the man who's trying to claim that title for his own, Tiger Woods.

In Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06, gamers will attempt to settle the old debate of just who is the #1 Golfer of All Time. They'll play golf legends such as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan on their terms and in their specific eras (equipment, clothing and all). However, Tiger Woods is also there and is after the same goal. It's your job to find him, stop him, and ultimately supplant him as the #1 golfer of every era. Duel with Tiger in multiple matches as he becomes your nemesis, chasing and even taunting you in every tournament.

Just as it is on the PGA TOUR, the key to a good shot is execution and precision. In Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06 both analog sticks are used to give more control than ever over each shot. The left analog stick will continue to control the backswing and downswing, while the right analog stick, or "Shape stick", controls ball trajectory and spin. Players are now challenged to focus on the impact point on the ball, while thinking more strategically before executing a shot. This also extends to putting where players will have to rely more on finesse and will need to move the analog stick only as far as needed to make the putt

The game of golf is as much psychological as it is physical and a key for gamers in 2006 will be maintaining confidence. With tension on every shot and mounting pressure to become the best, you can either keep your composure or lose it and become that embarrassing hack on the course. Based on good or bad shots or scores you make, a Gamebreaker meter will increase or decrease based on the amount of confidence you possess.

Key features
Dual Analog Swing and Putting: New advanced swing technique uses both analog sticks to "shape" shots. The left analog stick executes the swing and the right analog stick shapes the shot, controlling ball trajectory and spin. While putting, players will rely on "touch" and finesse as they swing the analog stick only as far as needed to make a putt. A new aiming mechanism also enables the user to line up and gauge putting speed.
Rivals Mode: Earn the title of #1 Golfer of All Time by following Tiger's path through time to best both Tiger's accomplishments and the accomplishments of the greatest golfers of each era, in an attempt to become the unanimous choice as #1 golfer of all time. Play against some of the great names in golf in Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan.
Gamebreaker: Based on good or bad shots and scores you make, your Gamebreaker meter will increase or decrease. When you hit certain thresholds you'll earn the opportunity to trigger a Gamebreaker situation, giving you the ability to hit a longer and more accurate shot.
Wagering and Shot Calling: Call your shot before making it and reap the rewards. Players can elect to "call their shot" before making it, putting up a wager that they can pull it off.
Courses: Play a total of 15 courses (11 licensed and three fantasy courses) including the site of the 2005 British Open, St. Andrews Golf Links. Seven new licensed courses include TPC Sawgrass (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) Reflection Bay (Las Vegas, Nev.), Cog Hill Golf Club (Chicago, Ill.), Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club (Portland, Ore.), Sahalee Country Club (Seattle, Was.) and Doral Golf Resort (Miami, Fla)
PGA TOUR Players: Compete as or against 15 different PGA TOUR players including Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and new this year Chris DiMarco, Mike Weir, Ian Poulter and Luke Donald. Additionally, 12 new fantasy characters will challenge you on the links.
EA SPORTS Online Competition: Play with up to four players with anyone across the country on the PlayStation 2 console or Xbox Live. Compete in Online Tournament events complete with money lists, full stat tracking, and league leaders. The new handicapping system will allow gamers to find competitors at a formidable level, and players can post scores on ea.com for access to web tournament leader boards.
Play a Career: In PGA TOUR Season mode for console versions, play along with the 52-week PGA TOUR calendar of events for up to 30 seasons. Obtain sponsorships from real golf equipment manufacturers throughout your career and drive to surpass Tiger Woods as #1 on the overall money list.
GameFace: Players will once again use the industry leading character creation technology GameFace to create their own golfer, outfit and build up their golfer's attributes to attempt to become the #1 Golfer of All Time. New this year is the ability to choose your own voice for your character.
Reactive Tiger Proofing: The course will literally fight back. Courses will become more difficult as you score well, and will ease up if you play poorly.
Golf's Best Commentators: David Feherty and Gary McCord make up the golf announcing Dream Team and provide their commentary and irreverent observations on each round

Having played the TW series on PS2 for a number of years I decided on the switch to PC, and it was worth it, and a very different experience, no more adding spin in flight, no more power boosts, no more hole-in-ones on every Par 3, its a much better and more realistsic golf game but........... there's still a lot missing, all of the good features, or fun features in the PS2 version seem to be missing for some reason in the PC version, there are no real-time calender events, there's no wagering on course as in the PS2 version, but it doesn't detract from the other features.
The one big major improvement in the switch to PC is the graphics, much much better, and the ability to control how you watch your shot, ball cam, TV cam, reverse cam etc etc, not forgetting the ability to design your own course and download user-created courses.
All in all, even with some of the old favorites missing, the PC version is more than worth a purchase.

Having played 2004 and thoroughly enjoyed it I thought I would wait for 2006 to come down in price a bit. I should have been alerted by the plummet in price! Being playing for a couple of days and I am not impressed. The graphics seem worse than 2004 and the courses are fewer. Not an improvement as I had hoped. Still, I'll persevere.

This game continues in the same way as its previous installments have gone. Graphics are excellent, and the gameplay is as good as ever. The one glitch is that only logitech gamepads are compatible with the game. But then again there's no other golf game in the market that comes even close to this, so you might as well get the gamepad too, and enjoy.

By A Customer on 20 Dec. 2005
The game while decent for a person not familiar with the Tiger Woods series, sadly lacks any significantly new features from its predecessors.
It seems to employ the same graphics engine as Tiger Woods 2005, which in itself is not a problem, however provides little reason if one already ownes an installment of the TW game to purchase TW 2006. Another dissapointing aspect of the game is the lack of new commentary. The game makes use of the same commentators and comments as in previous releases in this series. This proves pretty irritating as you've probably become bored of the comments in the previous release. Add to that similar, if not identical, player celebrations and one starts to wonder how this game differs from TW 2005.
On the plus side, it does feature some new courses, new clothing items and a new feature to ‘travel back in time’ and play some of the old greats.
The actual game play is not greatly dissimilar from TW 2005, however proves more difficult than previously. For anyone trying to compete with the 3 mouse click , forget about it! Playing on anything but novice is impossible until your golfer is fully upgraded or unless you choose a professional golfer.
On the whole a decent golf game for anyone not familiar with the Tiger Woods series, however greatly dissapointing for anyone already familiar with any of the releases in the series.

I bought this version with the 08 game. This version is faster, better graphics and progresses well. I wish that EA would bring out current Tiger Woods golf for PC, and not discriminate in favour of Blue Ray and PS.

As there isn't much in the way of new golf games about, we have to look backwards in time and I chose Tiger Woods 2006. I did have the 2005 version but for some reason it won't run with my Windows 7 system. Anyway, the 2006 version is great. It plays and feels just fine, and the career mode is really good. The customisation of the player character is really good and you can make a decent attempt of recreating yourself, or a very odd looking human being indeed. One thing with the graphics tho, the facial animations do get rather.. well scary as the facial textures sometimes shrink and the golfers face looks rather zombie-fied. Not really a glitch that prevents you from playing, but I thought I'd mention it.

I've only started my career in the game recently, so I can't comment on long term, but I'm sure the game will not disappoint.

Definetly worth it at the price!

Every now and then, either my opponent or I is apparently awarded a hole-in-nought. It seems to be down to accepting a gimme in Matchplay, but it is an occasional, if very irritating glitch. I bought the next version, which retains this problem and is worse in several other ways, and the 20nn versions bear little, if any relationship to this game. They are so poor I actually got a refund from EA !!!
Back to this product. It is the best in the series of Tiger Woods PGA Tour for PC - and actually runs on Vista. It gets 3 stars from me as it is a blend of fun and frustration.

With the new game - Tiger 2007 - due in September, I'd really like to make a couple of wishes before Tiger 2006 goes to the great attic in the sky. Overall I've enjoyed the game, particularly the Career Mode, but I'm disappointed by the AI/skill level of so-called Top Pro golfers. There's very little enjoyment to be had thrashing opponents who can barely reach the fairway with a drive (& if they do, the next shot is invariably smashed deep into the rough) & generally play like total duffers. I've played the TW series since way back & recall that back in the day even Colin Montgomerie was invincible! Equally, the courses tend to "play short" & the hazards generally don't pose much of a threat. Still, put me on a "very dry" green & you'll hear my knees knocking from the next tee. EA have decided to go to the other extreme with the 2 "Fantasy Courses" which - as in Tiger 2006 - are virtually unplayable & a total waste of space. If I'd wanted a "Crazy Golf" game I'd have bought one. Unless you're turned on by 600+yds zig-zagging par 4's, where even par is pretty unlikely, and a strange tendency for some shots - however they're hit or directed - to end up in exactly the same place ("out of bounds" naturally), suspicious, some might say...

However, I still prefer the Tiger W series to any other golf games I've tried & look forward to the next instalment.
