HASH(0x8e82ef0c) out of 5 stars The tale of two smiling faces... 25 Feb. 2011
By Andrew Ellington - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
The story is simple and sweet, told with precise wording that evokes interest and intelligence, and the illustrations are crudely charmed. That, combined with an intricately designed layout, creates one of the better children's books I've read in quite a while. I really, truly, loved this little book. Telling a tale of two very different animals, a tiger and a turtle, who communicate in glances and defer to respectful distances, `Tiger and Turtle' is a beautiful lesson in the birth of friendships. These two creatures remain separated. They are different and yet they share a common interest that neither expected. As they trivially fight over a fallen flower, the two develop grudges and exact revenges until they realize the ridiculousness of their feud. But, that feud, that disagreement bears rich fruit as the two grow from their tiff to develop the beginnings of a beautiful friendship (or so I imagine). The beautiful orange designs that swirl in the backdrop create an experience I cherished, and the tale of these two `soon to be' friends brought big smiles to not just my face, but the face of my little one as well.
HASH(0x8e727c54) out of 5 stars A Book Worth Sharing 27 Jun. 2010
By Julie Roberts Towe - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
With the first line "Once upon a never time", my children were hooked. The story is about how a tiger and a turtle resolve an unnecessary argument. The writing flows beautifully for reading aloud. For young readers, the amount of words per page encourages attempts at new words such as craned, morsel, and borne aloft. (My 1st grader believes too many words on a page + new words = she doesn't want to read it.). James Rumford has found a perfect balance. My children read this multiple times and I am considering buying it for their school library.
HASH(0x8f8d0540) out of 5 stars Lovely book 1 Dec. 2012

Format: Hardcover
Fantastic adaptation of an Indian fable with colorful illustrations by a Honolulu based author.I've also read "From the Good Mountain" which describes the history of bookmaking for children.
