Product Description

Ticket to Ride Nordic Countries takes you on a Nordic adventure through Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden as you travel to the great northern cities of Copenhagen, Oslo, Helsinki and Stockholm. Visit Norway's beautiful fjords and the magnificent mountain scenery on the Rauma Railway. Breathe in the salt air of the busy Swedish ports on the Baltic Sea. Ride through the Danish countryside where Vikings once walked. Hop-on the Finnish railway and travel across the Arctic Circle to the land of the Midnight Sun.
Players collect cards of various types of train cars that enable them to claim railway routes and pass through tunnels and onto ferries, as they connect cities throughout the Nordic Countries.
As with previous versions, the game remains elegant, can be learned in 5 minutes and provides hours of fun for families and experienced gamers alike.

    Top Customer Reviews

By Nicholas Casley TOP 500 REVIEWER on 6 Sept. 2009
This is, at the time of writing, the latest instalment in the Ticket to Ride series of games. It was originally only released in Scandinavia but demand seems to have determined its release globally.

The same basic rules apply as from the original series, including tunnels and ferries. The map features Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and a bit of Arctic Russia (Murmansk). There is also an excursion to Tallinn, capital of Estonia. The carriage cards are of the usual design, except they have a covering of snow on top. Indeed, the whole game has an air of Christmas about it!

Changes from the original concept include no limit on the number of loco cards that can be drawn; and a globetrotter card worth ten points for the most completed tickets (instead of ten points for the longest route in the other games).

This version is not particularly radical enough perhaps to warrant purchase for those already with an earlier version, except I suppose if, like me, you are a completist and a bit f a nut for the game. But if you want a version for the family or friends to play in the cold frosty months, then this perhaps is a worthy version, given its winter feel.

This has to be the most beautifully produced board game in my 'too big' collection! The art work on box and board is outstanding; appealing characters like Santa,a wonderful wintry theme with snow topped wagons and trains on the cards, a snowy Scandinavian landscape across the board, with predominant colours of trains and board being purples, lilacs and whites
The game is specifically designed for 2/3 players and provides a tight, exciting experience. Competition is intense for certain key routes. The southern and eastern parts of the board have many short, easier to complete but lower scoring routes, whilst the northern and western have longer, difficult to make high scoring tickets. There is even a 9 card 27 point route to Murmansk which can be made. All 4 Scandanavian countries are well represented, and my knowledge of the geography is improving!
The game is closest to Ticket to Ride Switzerland. If you have mostly just 2 or 3 people playing, this is a better, more challenging and competitive game than Ticket to Ride Europe(there no stations to make things easier). The game map is tighter than the USA game .. there are fewer alternatives if others chase your routes. I have played this and ended with a minus score, so badly wrong did things go!
Exceptionally lovely to look at; a somewhat different variant to the original game; my wife and I play this more than any of the other TtRs.

If you've played the other map sets (Europe esp!) with less than 3/4 players, you'll know that some low play numbers result in easy map runs. Not any more! as a 2 / 3 player game, with reduced numbers of track lines, you very quickly run out of routes! A much tighter, tenser version of ticket to ride, and as a result, don't play with bad losers or stroppy players as so many routes lock each other out the game gets tense and stressful at times.

A great tweak to the format, ideal for 2 / 3 players over a bigger map and much tighter play with different points and rules adding to the variation and enjoyment!

Having purchased Ticket to Ride Europe and really enjoyed it, I have now purchased the Nordic version which is designed for 2-3 players - so good to play when all the children are away. At first when you purchase either game, you may find the rules a bit daunting with all the bits - however, like most games, once you play it the first time and work it out - you really get hooked! The board, pieces and cards are durable, pleasant to look at and well made. The game is addictive and you can be quite competitive trying to get to your destinations and on the way accidentally (or not) block other players routes!

The variations between both the European and Nordic are slight so it is easy to adapt to which ever game you are playing. I would recommend the Ticket To Ride games to any family who enjoy board games. However please note that it is only the American,European or Nordic versions that are complete games - the other countries are extension packs and you need one of the above to be able to play them.

I purchased the first one because of the good reviews and it is one of the most enjoyable all round games that I have played for years. Also the games seem to take about 1hr to play so you can just enjoy one fairly shortish game or go on to play again.

We love the original and European versions of this family game so this was a must buy for the festive season. It's slightly smaller than the other versions - therefore only needs up to 3 players - we ended up playing in 2 teams of 2. The game play is still alot of fun and the festive, snowy touches to this version are a nice touch. My youngest is 11 and this game is spot on for him - he is able to join in and it is still challenging enough for all of us to enjoy.

Great game! Really enjoyed this alternative map. One thing to bear in mind, it's only for 3 players max, where the original US map is for up to 5 players.

New features include tunnels (turn over top 3 cards of train deck, if any of the same colour trains (or locomotives) are revealed pay these in addition to the trains already paid) and ferries (pay as many locomotives as indicated on the track), which give the game a new twist.

Only negative I have, is with the map itself, there are quite large gaps where more cities could have been placed, particularly in Finland. However, this does not detract from the game.
