For £54 you get two medium-duty webbing straps and four molded plastic cradles.
I recently bought two heavy-duty webbing straps for around £14 that are superior to the Thule ones.
If you therefore deduct £14 for the equivalent cost of the straps, I paid the remaining £40 for the four plastic cradles!!
This is shameful niche product pricing by Thule.
Update comments May 2014 - OK I decided to keep the canoe carrier despite the ridiculous price. However, this week I attempted to use it for the first time. Imagine my utter dismay and annoyance when I found that the Thule canoe carriers wouldn't fit the 'Thule' roof-bars on my Ford Focus because the canoe cradles needed to be in the same position as the roof bar clamps and therefore couldn't be attached.
Fortunately I had a Plan B and applied tubular pipe insulation to my roof bars and strapped the canoe down directly onto the roof bars. It worked a treat and cost less than £5.
So in summary - the Thule canoe carrier is a shocking price and to add insult to injury doesn't work with the Thule roof bars on certain cars.
Think very hard before purchasing this.
