I was after a simple system to carry the bikes. No straps, no hassle. The Thule system is brilliant. After the initial assembly and fitting, all that was needed was a 5 minute lesson for the family to clip on and off the system and they are now set to explore the myriad of cycleways in our area. The only annoyance is that the hooks that hold onto the car are not rubber coated as stated, or that bag of bits is missing. On a product of this quality (and price) this is silly.

The Thule arrived timely and the packaging seems as modest/green in size as is possible. The manual follows the standard, picture x list of bits, followed by pictures and list of assembly instructions. On the whole it is simple to follow and the parts are well made and fit well.

The only disappointment is in the actual fitting to the car. There are specific printed details for a range of cars. This could be enhanced by an online longer list. The Thule website is conspicuous not having a forum to facilitate this.

The main niggle was that the rubber strips to cover the 4 car attachment hooks were missing from my box. On a product of this quality this was a mystery. Is it a quality control issue? Bottom line, very annoying on an otherwise splendid product and the reason for the dropped star.

So intial impressions are that I have bought the best bike rack in the world. Quick & easy to fit, quality build, but with small fixable niggles, Thule needs a web forum and to fix missing parts.

Bought this for an old VW Polo (1995) and it works perfectly. Easy and quick to attach to the back of the car and once in place you can mount your bicycles quickly and securely. You may need an optional attachment tho for mountain bikes due to the shape of the bicycle frame. It comes with 2 clear plastic type stickers that you attach to the rear bumper to prevent scratching/rubbing that may occur when Clipon is attached. Unfortunately, if you plan to use the Thule on a 2nd car you then do not have any more protective stickers and I don't know if you can buy them seperately from Thule or not, but they should have provided at least 4 to cover 2 cars.
Looks very nice when attached to the car unlike many other cheaper brands. Doing 70mph- 80mph on the motorway and everything seems secure.
*** Update July 19th, 2013...due to hot summer I have been using this frequently...still happy with it and I doubt there is a better option at this price point. I want to point out tho that the 2 hooks/hinges at the top and bottom that attach the Clipon to the top and bottom of the hatch need to be attached carefully. I've noticed a few small marks from putting the frame on the back of my old 1995 VW Polo. Once you have this on the car it is rock solid but if you are installing and removing frequently care definitely needs to be taken.

This is a well made product with clear instructions, but is too heavy for easy fitting without assistance. Damage to the paintwork is almost inevitable. There was not enough space between the top of the door and the body on my Clio Mk3 to allow any protection to be applied to the clips to protect the paint.

I bought Thule ClipOn 9103 for my KIA Cerato, and it worked like a charm, making it easy and fun to take bikes on day-long rides as well on vacations.

It may not look it from the pictures, but bikes are extremely stable when mounted. The carrier grabs the door firmly at 4 places and the bikes are held in place by their weights pressing on toothed rubber rings on the carrier. The bikes are additionally fastened with rubber straps, and their bottoms are fastened to the bottom of the carrier with a nylon strap to prevent them from swinging when accelerating. The result is nothing short of amazing - there is no jiggling whatsoever, and trying to jiggle the bikes literally shakes the car instead.

It takes some patience to fit three bikes on the carrier, but with practice it becomes second nature. Ditto for bikes with non-standard frames, such as women bikes, mountain bikes with very small frames, or city bikes with front baskets. But after some experimenting, almost any type of bike can be mounted.

Two words of warning:

* Rear-mounted bikes will partially obscure the lights on the back and the license plate. On my car the lights were still visible, but the license plate was hard to read, especially with three mounted bikes. Depending on where you are, this might earn you a ticket from the local police.

* Despite Thule providing rubber fittings for the part of the carrier that grabs hold of the door, it is almost inevitable that some paint will be scratched with extended use. Think twice before putting this on a brand new car that you don't want scratched.

After several years of use, I moved on to a towbar-mounted carrier (as my new car has a spoiler that prevents ClipOn from attaching), but my brother is still a happy user of the ClipOn.

Amazing product in several ways. First, it's amazing Thule has such a good reputation given how poorly this product has been designed. It is designed to be collapsible but in erected mode the rigidity of the entire construction depends on the user getting the torque exactly right on two long bolts that form the pivot between horizontal and vertical metal frame pieces. Too loose and you can't help feel it might collapse and too tight and it risks breaking the flimsy quarter turn plastic levers (as I did!) because in the correct position, the levers look completely wrong and weak. secondly, the lower grips are far too loose and you stand a strong chance of scratching the paintwork of the car trying to fit it. Why are they not more secure? (No prizes for guessing why they provide you with 'protective' clear plastic strips rather like sellotape for you car. Why not just design the thing a bit better? Thirdly, why should I add the protective rubber adhesive patches for the inside of the clamps? Thule should provide this fitted. It wouldn't cost much for them to do at manufacture. Fourthly, the most amazing thing about this product is how it has managed to attract so many good reviews! Comments such as 'easy to assemble' this is rubbish! It is awkward and appallingly designed, and trust me I'm pretty good at these things! 'Instructions clear' this is also complete rubbish. Think IKEA symbols and pictures but much, much worse. It even advises in picture format that 4nm (Neuton metres) be applied with the Allen key! When building the aforementioned flimsy plastic pivot. Really? Who has a torque wrench for such situations. How stupid. I can confidently say this is one of the worst products, badly designed and cheaply made that I have ever come across. This was my first Thule product, and will be my last.
