Review

"Dear reader, I love Thug Kitchen's cooking. As hilariously foul-mouthed as these motherf*ckers are, I really like their passion for eating the right food, for cutting to the chase, and for knocking up good, nutritious food from scratch. Their message is simple--stop relying on the microwave, stop relying on processed crap. Whoever you are and wherever you are, get down to the markets and supermarkets, use your budget to pick up some fresh ingredients, and get cooking. So, Thug Kitchen, good luck, and keep doing what you're doing."--Jamie Oliver

I'm a happy vegetarian who was just looking for inspiring ways to cut back on dairy a bit. Most vegan books bore me to tears but I love, love, LOVE this book! I've spent two days excitedly rummaging through it and writing lists of stuff I want to make - it's very hard not to be swept up by this amazingly refreshing and original approach to cooking. I've made three things already: Roasted Sriracha Cauliflower Bites, Black Bean Torta with Coconut Chipotle Mayo (COCONUT CHIPOTLE MAYO! Yes it's amazing!) and the Vegetable Pad Thai. All delicious. This book is a bit sweary so no good if you're quite sensitive, but I would urge you to ignore that - otherwise you'll be missing out on a fabulous, highly informative book full of nutritious and delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners as well as snacks, desserts and drinks. Also has an infinitely adaptable green smoothie formula and everything you need to know to make tofu taste brilliant - seriously, just buy the book.
I strongly recommend investing in a cheap cup measuring set if you don't already have one; as this book is all about the cups. I dislike cup measurements intensely, but as I measure, I also weigh the amounts - and make a note of it in the book to make life easier next time.
The fact that this book is vegan is sort of incidental - it's not about veganism, it's just about cooking fabulously fresh and flavoursome food that just happens to be vegan.

Great way to get good Vegan food into the lives of many, without being dull or preachy at any point. Recipes are for the most part very simple and not time consuming, unless you count putting things in water overnight... which nobody should. Buying copies for at least 5 people this Christmas. Great work guys!

This book is hilarious! I personally do not like cooking, but i Do like good food. This book makes preparing healthy meals entertaining and interesting. There is no weird jargon only a professional chef could decipher and most of the ingredients are cheap and easy to find which is great.

Absolutely brilliant! The recipes are chock full of flavour and don't require the procurement of spices and ingredients I haven't a hope in hell of getting out here in the f*cking sticks. This sh*t rocks!

Love this book, its printed on good quality paper and has some great recipes. As this book has been tailored for the US audience some ingredients need some hunting for those in the UK like myself, but overall I'm very pleased with it. Liberal use of the F-word in the book may put some buyers off.

As a die hard meat eater and my other half being a veggie its sometimes hard to come to a compromise when cooking meals...
But then one day 'Thug Kitchen' came along. I've had this book a week and I've already made a number of recipes. With a hilarious intro and writing style and easy to follow instructions this book brings meals that are healthy, hearty, won't break the bank and will never compromise on the wow factor!

I recommend the Spicy chickpea wraps with Tahini Dressing or the Coconut Mango rice side! Both are unbelievable and I have barely scratched the surface! 100% recommend to anyone veggie, vegan, omnivore or carnivore!

Being told by a recipe to 'slow down sir mix a lot' made my day. If you have no stomach for bad language this isn't for you. If however, you do have a stomach for, and enjoyment of a plain speaking, no bull approach to life then this book is fantastic. The recipes are more towards the Mexican food style of cooking but holy f*@+ they're tasty. The enchiladas were incredible. It's upped my veg intake by a considerable margin and I genuinely feel better for it.

BBQ Bean Burritos with Spanish Rice (and peach salsa) is all I need to say really! Arggghahahah! So, so, so good!

Another amazing recipe was a real surprise - Walnut meat tacos which are basically a walnut mixture, pineapple salsa and more served on lettuce leaves. I would usually hate anything obviously looking all 'leafy', but... after my first bite of these I was amazed -really filling and another of the nicest things I've ever tasted In my life.

I've been a meat eater most of my life. Then a vegetarian for a year and now a vegan for just over half a year. This was a gift at Christmas (I bought it for my partner tbh.. don't judge me - we both use it!)

About the swearing, it's basicly like two middle aged white guys trying to be hip and cool - just a bit of a laugh, makes you smile and shake your head when reading lines like 'mix that f****er'.

Top tips for new vegans:
- invest in a rudy good food processor;
- plan meals in advance (to give time to order things like pinto beans, miso paste and nutritional yeast as well as soak cashews overnight when needed);
- make double (at least) to eat the next day for lunch/use as part of tomorrow's dinner - makes the extra time spent cooking some of these well worth it.. or maybe I'm just lazy and greedy;
- be patient - it's going to be more expensive to start with while you stockpile main ingredients but it will be cheaper in the long run!

Great book I'd highly recommend!
