This is my 4th wheel purchase, I have attempted to upgrade on every occasion, and thought we may finally be there!! I purchased this wheel in November to replace a Logitech G27, which was still ok, but had the dreaded design flaws that both the G25 and G27 have, and I feared may not last much longer, as my G25 had previously given up the ghost, so I sold it and bought this. First impressions were ok, I wasn't blown away, it was a little notchy, a bit smudgy on the armature/commutator at first, certainly not as smooth as the G27 is, but the force feedback was good and powerful and the wheel inputs were accurate. There are a few drawbacks hence the 4 stars, firstly the wheel rim marks very easily, although I prefer the feel and grip levels to the G25/27 leather, and it seems like it will wear well otherwise. The pedals are not bad, although you can mount them either way up I was disappointed to learn I could not remove the clutch pedal, and swap the brake and clutch positions around to suit my rigs central wheel mount (F1 or paddle shift is all that I play so don't need the clutch) as they are not like Logitech with the spade connectors on the potentiometers, they are soldered and the cables aren't long enough, so can't be altered without voiding the warranty which was a shame, and as a result I had to mount the pedals off centre which I wasn't happy about. The addition of the add on F1 wheel as an accessory really does add to the gameplay, problem is, if you are familiar with a wheel beforehand, it can be a bit tricky to reprogram old habits, and takes a while to adjust to the knobs and switches available on the wheel, making it enjoyable and frustrating at the same time. A top tip is bolt it down, my Logitech's (all 3) never moved, this with the powerful feedback moves every time I play, and is much better now I've screwed it to the mount, I believe the reason for this is the Logitech's when they get warm, the feedback weakens, this one doesn't and is fan cooled, and a good 25% stronger throughout the game. All in all, relatively happy, if the pedals could be fully customized, i would have probably given 5 stars. ***UPDATE AFTER 3 YEARS*** from 4 stars to 1 star!!!! My wheel failed a week after being brought back into use after a year in storage. Found Guillemot who manufacture these ok to deal with and they sold me the part for £70, but I was extremely disappointed with the state of the PCB on removal from the wheel in comparison to the new one, my board had clearly be refurbished, all of the IC's and several components had been replaced by hand the soldering was a mess and a splash of solder had been left on the board, clearly over time this had become loose with the vibration and shorted something out (see pictures) My advice would be dismantle your wheel on arrival and make sure you're board is untampered with, if it has been send it back and demand a new one! At £440 they ain't cheap (with F1 add on wheel like mine) Check out the appalling soldering on the 3 pin capacitors/Mosfets, most of the pins aren't even through the board and the gap is bridged with solder, something I would expect to see in a £10 Chinese toy not a £350+ wheel. Having sent pictures to Guillemot, they gave the following reply: " Had there been a real problem with the PCB, it would have failed a few days or maybe weeks after the first use, not more than 2 years later" " This is our official response regarding this matter" It seems they're just happy selling spares and have no concern with quality control, disappointing. The only good thing is parts are available even if they aren't cheap.
