Thrustmaster T500 RS Force Wheel with Feedback (PS3 and PC)
The T500 RS is a real driving simulator, combining power and precision. Thrustmaster has drawn from more than 20 years of expertise in racing wheels, with a single goal: to develop a wheel and pedal set that allows users to go as far as possible in the GT5 experience. The designers have taken into account the expectations of the most demanding gamers, while also adhering to the technical choices of the developers of this new opus in the benchmark car racing series.
The T500 RS’s dual official GT5 and PlayStation licenses are the result of this unique positioning, as Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital and Senior Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., explains: “The goal that I set for the Thrustmaster team was to design for me the most precise wheel ever developed, without any latency – to accurately reproduce the sensations of GT5, and let users truly feel the emotions experienced by drivers on real racing circuits.”
|30cm in diameter with brushed metal radio stations.|
Ergonomics was at the heart of the wheel’s development, with an eye on optimising gameplay, performance and driving sensations. The sequential gearlevers mounted on the base feature large 17cm levers that are constantly accessible without letting go of the wheel. The wheel itself offers a remarkable 1080° rotation. These 3 full turns are also adjustable, thanks to a motorised stop, allowing the gamer choose the maximum degree of rotation according to the type of racing circuit and the car being driven.
The T500 RS is a true racing simulator designed for the most die-hard racing fans: its power is unmatched, with Force Feedback effects relayed via a 65W industrial motor, providing 150mNm at 3000 RPM. The Force Feedback mechanism is vigorous, fast-acting and extremely responsive. While the power is potent, the integrated large dual-belt system ensures backlash-free and smooth behavior.
Fans of even the most intense racing experience know that power alone does not allow them to achieve the best performance. With this in mind, the T500 RS provides total precision which never decreases over time.
The wheel is super-precise with 16-bit resolution and 65536 values on its steering axis.
|3 adjustable pedals both in space and height.|
The spacing and height of the 100% metal pedal set is also fully adjustable and accommodate individual driving preferences by offering 2 positions: “floor-mounted” F1 style, or “suspended” GT style. The brake pedal has been given extra attention, with reinforced and adjustable resistance that lets users perfectly tailor their braking with near surgical precision, and which includes a removable mod.
A textured foot rest, also crafted entirely of metal, completes the pedal set. Gamers will notice that having 3 pedals at their disposal not only enhances the level of realism.
The pedal set of the T500 RS is 100% adjustable: you can adjust the height, the spacing and the inclination of each pedal and even replace the Thrustmaster pedals by a set from motorsport manufacturers. The pedals set of the T500 RS is made of 100% of metal (7Kg / 15.4Lbs) which provides optimal stability, the best durability and the most realistic, simulation experience.
- With 2 locations to choose from (mounted: F1 or suspended: GT).
- Metal pedals, high stability and resistance.
- Weight 7 Kg approximately.
- 3 adjustable pedals both in space and height.
- Brake pedal and adjustable enhanced resistance.
- Textured metal footrest grid.
| ||H.E.A.R.T. HALLEFFECT ACCURATE TECHNOLOGY. |
Is the the new technology developed by Thrustmaster to reproduce movements made on a product in games. It relies on magnetic – and not mechanical – 3D (HallEffect) sensors, placed in different locations according to the product in question. The precision made possible by the use of this technology is significantly higher than that provided by standard technologies.
Another advantage of this system: by eliminating all friction, it guarantees zero mechanical wear, for permanent precision that won’t decrease over time.
The level of precision is also enhanced by the absence of any dead zones: even the slightest movement made by the player results in a reaction. Actions in games are therefore more linear, smoother and without any untimely jolts. A patent application has been filed for this technology.

The hand grips on the steering wheel, and the overall feel of the wheel and peddles is fantastic and the mounting is easy and simple. The metallic gear changing triptonic paddles are metal and feel very smooth and nice in your hand when changing gear, and the rest of the buttons on the steering wheel work very well with in game menu's.
All of the above has been said, so I'll move on to F1 2015 and Project Cars (PC):
Project Cars - Project Cars works great with this wheel. Unfortunately, there is no setting for the Thrustmaster F458 Italia wheel on the PC version, meaning you're forced to use the setting labelled "Xbox One Controller - Classic". Using this setting, you're able to use all of the buttons on the steering wheel very well, and with no issues. I found it best to increase the sensitivity of the wheel in the Project Cars Menu, and also found that setting the Deadzones to as low as possible also helped. The only downside to this is that, when you come to the leaderboard menu, it will show that your fastest laps were set on a controller and not on a wheel. A small price to pay, I'd say.
F1 2015 - I was able to get this wheel to work on every other F1 game I own on PC (12, 13, 14) however COULD NOT get it to work on F1 2015. This might have been down to something I was doing, but after many attempts I couldn't get the peddles to work. When launching F1 2015, you're warned that the steering wheel is not supported, but after that, the menu works pretty perfectly.Read more ›
Definitely, worth getting as a fun alternative to the standard PS Controller.
the down side is that you will really need a wheel mount they are on amazon at around another £60 or so, the pedals have a nice feel and feed back, though you are always missing the clutch, which is a big miss for some games.
other not likes include the fact that the cable running from the wheel to the PS4 is fixed into the wheel (meaning you cant just plug in a better or longer/shorter cable from the wheel to the PS4) the Cable from the wheel to the pedals is a Network (wheel end) and is fixed (pedal end) again meaning you cant easily replace it.
There is no head set jack so its not easy to use the voice commands (which are very useful in games like F1 2015)
Pretty good value as a starter wheel, but its hard to give it more than a 3 star review for problems that should really have been fixed at the design stage
I bought this for Windows 7 and as with a lot of others it did not self install. Eventually I found the answer which turned out to be easy.
First off go to device manager where you will see the wheel listed. Right click on it and select Update Driver Software > Browse My computer for Driver Software > Let Me Pick from a List of Drivers.
You are looking for Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" (version 2006). If it's there install it (ignore any warnings).
If it's not there select Microsoft>Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class> Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" (version 2006) and install it.
Once done you should find the wheel works normally (select Xbox controller in your games if you can't see the wheel listed).
- Force feedback is very powerful and realistic.
- Build quality feels excellent. Where pieces are joined don't wobble or feel weak. (This is good considering the force feedback means that you have to put some strength into driving).
- Pedals feel very realistic overall. They are reversible so you can have them from the bottom up, or the top down.
-Comfortable to hold and use.
- If anything the force feedback is too powerful. This isn't a con at all, because it's great, but you need a pretty sturdy desk or it could cause some damage. I took it to a friend's house who only had a lightweight small desk and I nearly threw the desk over when I tried to correct my over-steer and span out.
- The brake pedal, while adjustable, is a little too stiff for my liking, even at the loosest setting. I appreciate that this is more characteristic of a racing car, but often I like to drive regular cars around the track.
Overall this wheel is excellent and will really improve your driving sim experience. As far as I'm concerned there is no better alternative for the price.

Good quality and well built steering wheel. Works perfectly on the PS4.
Pedals are ok, just a shame there wasn't a third (clutch) pedal. Read more
Very poor PC support.
It's worth spending little extra when going for a wheel for PC
