About the Author

Once upon a time, there was a young story teller in the kingdom...er, queendom. Then she grew up and... er, no... she never actually did grow up. That's not to say she didn't get old, or more old, but not terribly old, more like middle-aged really. Okay, so she was no longer short and cute. But really, I always did like to make up stories. Still do. Still live in my own little world--where I'm Queen. Of the Queendom. Hence, the name. (Or whence the name?) Oh, what's in a name anyway. Now I'm sure you're wondering how I manage to live, but I assure you I am quite competent. Except I couldn't get the crown to actually sit on my head in the picture to the left. Still learning... Oh, about me. I love cats. I have a girl cat, a princess technically. Named Kitty. No, I'm serious. Long story. No, I don't have time. Or space. Okay, so I do not have the inclination. More about me. I spend hours, days, weeks, months (you get the picture) sitting at my desk, looking out the window of my castle/bedroom and writing complete fabrications in a romantic whimsical vein. Alright, if you insist, you can call the writing quirky. But I do keep myself amused. Yes, it's true, and entirely believable, I do have a college degree. I'm not saying when I obtained said degree, however. Go UConn! Where do I live (for real) you ask? Among the picturesque lake-filled hills and dales (not sure what a dale is) of New Hampshire (the Granite State) (Live Free or Die) (Tough choice, but there's a lot of tough people around here). What else do I do besides write presumably fabulous "R"omantic stories with noble heroes and amazing, warm heroines who you want to be just like? As if that's not enough, I sometimes deign to teach, cook for the two gigantic very well-muscled sons and try to make sure Kitty doesn't take over the house while I'm away in the Queendom. (That's no joke. The cat's a control freak.) I actually have a very rich non-imaginary life. Right at the moment, however, I can't think for the life of me what else it's all about. Maybe I'll think more about it later and get back to you...

The writing style fits this story perfectly, giving a retro feel with plenty of dry humour. The Beacon Hill Boston setting is well done and the mystery element plays out nicely with plenty of twists and turns involving a whole bunch of interesting secondary characters. But what makes this book so compelling is the two main characters. I adored Grace, a very distinctive heroine with her Marilyn looks--and perfect for the story. It's really difficult to write 'nice' heroines well. They so often come across as too perfect or boring but Grace is lovely. With her genuine nature and sweetness you just have to love her. David is great as well.I really felt bad for him. His awful past experience concerning his wife is the sort of thing that must destroy one emotionally. I loved watching him go back and forth in his head between doing what he thought he should at his age and following his heart. Very satisfying the way the plot sort of came full circle to make him face his fears again at the end. A lovely blend of romance and mystery with a good dose of humour!

This book was quite well written with just the right amount of both crime-fighting and romance. Not by any means a traditional romance story, this will they-won't they tale is one of Grace and David and their twenty-something age gap. The story is really fast paced, lots of exciting crime fighting happening along the way, murders and the small matter of the two main characters trying to fight and deny their feelings for each other. I found it hard to put down, especially once the crime elements went up a notch and the romance started on it's on/off journey. Good stuff, I'll be looking out for more stuff by Stephanie Queen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Curl up and enjoy this fast paced exciting steamy read! 8 Jan. 2012

The Throwbacks embraces the time when a woman can be beautiful, flirty, sexy and intelligent. Grace eludes all those characteristics. David is the man that tries deeply to deny himself of her charms. He is tall, dark and handsome. He is a man whose life has had its share of turmoil. David has been transferred to Boston to work as part of the Scotland Yard Exchange Program. This is a tale of suspense with a twist of delicious sultry passion. You won't soon forget David, Grace and all the other characters that make this book such a fantastic read. I loved it! Thank you Stephanie Queen

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun from beginning to end 6 Dec. 2011

This was a fun, romantic book from the first page. I loved how the older Scotland Yard cop who was on loan to the Boston PD really fell for the younger woman, head over heels actually, and fought it the entire book. The way they met and clicked began the story which moved so smoothly from one scene to the next that I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between David and Grace was wonderful. The other characters added to the story and each was perfect in his/her supporting role. David had a lot of baggage to overcome, and Grace's background and hopes for the future only added to the pressure. She was such a sweetheart I was rooting for her from the beginning. I recommend this book, but be prepared to let other things slide until you reach the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute read! 27 May 2013

It's a cute concept and a cute read.. I couldn't put it down but I wasn't in love with it.. The only thing was that it was way too fast but most of these romance novels take place in like a week! Lol.. But this one was definitely a little faster. I loved David and Grace. The age difference issue was a different twist and how Grace was always at the right place at the wrong time was kind of funny! I enjoyed it but didn't love it.
