Throb sort of confused me if I’m honest. The title conveys a dirtier, raunchier little number than it actually is and having read Vi Keeland's MMA series, which I loved, had I gone in blind I would not have said this was the same author at all.
It's an enjoyable enough book and reminded me of the early works of Rachel Gibson, Lori Foster or Jennifer Crusie for example, but it just didn't quite deliver - an ok but forgettable book, that left me thinking "meh, that’s that then" when I finished with no emotions or feels.
So why did it not work for me?
It's a predictable storyline, dating show where girl meets boy not involved in show so they hide relationship, yada yada yada. I've read similar and this had no new spin to make it fresh so just felt a little déjà vu. The two leads, Cooper and Kate, were nice enough but I liked them rather than loved them. Their connection just missed that little tangible something extra that invests you in them and makes you care, so that you want them to have a HEA, so you have the feels one way or the other. The villain of the piece is more of a whiney brat than anything else and no secondary characters stood out, a surprise as the author has done this so well in the past.
For me I would say if you like quick, sweet stories with only a touch of hot this may be your thing but I wanted a touch more, angst, sex, hotness, feels. I don't know what but something was missing that failed to connect me to the story or characters and as I said it's not a bad book, it's just not for me.

In this book the author has shown me that there is no limit to her versatility. The storyline is well plotted out, her characters’ personalities are extremely well developed and above all, it is clear to see that she’s done her homework regarding the Hollywood scene. I was thirty-five percent into this read and was forced to put this book down; however, I can assure you that I didn’t want to! This was when I was able to make my first solid opinion. “God forbid; this is a hellishly good read,” I said to myself! On very rare occasions do I start to write a review before finishing a book, and this was the case! I am also aware that one shouldn’t start off a review like this either as I am actually summing up…

But let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of what appears to be an enthralling triangle where the reader wants each of the main protagonists to come out tops! Obviously, this is asking too much; all said and done, someone has to be the loser. Who will it be I asked myself? Yes, the story of Kate Monroe, Cooper Montgomery and Flynn Beckham is most certainly intriguing!

Quote: "Good things don't usually come easy. And I love a challenge."

I’m really not one for letting on; nevertheless, to get you in the picture; please excuse the pun because this story revolves around the movie world and reality shows, is not only about a contest, but also about who will win Kate’s heart.

Quote: "She's my girl next door. Looks sweet and innocent, but she has a streak of something wild."

Kate is between a rock and a hard place. She thinks she knows what’s best for her, but sometimes doing the right thing isn’t always the best option.

So I enjoyed the premise of the story but to me there were two flaws.

The first flaw was that we never really learned why Miles was such a numpty towards Cooper. Yes a small explanation was given but it wasn’t really enough to warrant the level of hate it was obvious that Miles had for him.

The second flaw was the way both Cooper and Kate wanted each other yet she felt she had to continue with the reality show despite knowing how Cooper felt about it all. Also Kate knew the direction of the show and I would have thought any decent person would have had a bit more respect for the person they profess to love and not do something that they knew angered them!!

Flynn seemed too good to be true and I wonder if he came across that way because he was on a reality show and wanted to appear to be the big romantic and that’s why he picked Kate rather than the bimbo. I suppose we will find out soon as the next book is about Flynn.

Anyway, as per usual, I cannot fault the execution of the story. I enjoy Ms Keeland’s style of writing. She is a tad more flowery and prosey than the usual stuff I read but that’s not to say it’s a bad thing, because it isn’t.

A very enjoyable read, not too graphic, not too taxing but definitely worth a one click.

The attraction is instantaneous when Cooper and Kate meet, but the timing couldn’t be any worse. Kate is participating in a reality TV Bachelor show in the hopes of winning the hefty cash prize, and is under a contractual obligation not to date anyone for the next 7 weeks. Cooper isn’t a patient man and certainly isn’t happy to watch the woman he desperately wants get cosy with another man on TV. He’s never been one to break the rules but Kate is making him crazy and disrupting his normally very organised life. Kate in turn wants to win the show for the cash but bachelor Flynn is falling for her. He’s a handsome rock star but doesn’t stand a chance against the determined Cooper.

I loved this heart-warming contemporary romance. The plot remains entertaining throughout as Kate and Cooper face more hurdles than just her contract before they reach their HEA. The dialogue is funny with plenty of amusing interactions between the leading lovers, their friends and other contestants on the TV show Throb. Kate and Cooper are both endearing characters that the reader wants to see happy. She’s feisty, funny and loyal, whilst he is left alternating between romantic and alpha male throwing her onto the bed and showing her exactly who she should be with.
