The first five chapters of Thrive Foods are truly eye-opening and life-changing. Brendan has brought together an incredible amount of information on how our food choices affect both our health and the environment and presents it in an easy to understand and memorable way. The 'nutrient dense whole foods to thrive' chapter is also excellent - after having the book for two months I've now incorporated many of the suggested foods into my diet.

The majority of the recipes are incredible; I've tried many of them and can really feel the change in my energy levels and overall fitness - but the reason I can only honestly give the book four out of five is down to a few specific recipes I have tried which either simply don't work (after spending an hour perfectly preparing the blueberry pancakes all I had was an almost ruined pan and some useless batter) or include ridiculous amounts of certain, expensive ingredients (the amount of agave and coconut oil in the banana creme pie made me feel quite sick and has almost put me off agave altogether). I understand that some recipes may not work perfectly for everyone every time, but when they include so many expensive and difficult to source ingredients I'd expect something at least edible.

That being said, Thrive Foods is still the most informative and life-changing book I have ever read. It has made my transition from a soy-meat vegan to an entirely plant-based whole-foods vegan amazingly easy - it has been the best thing I've ever done.

A diet of gluten-free veganism with no processed sugars? What would you actually eat? This wonderful book goes through the logical steps of why veganism is better for you, for animals and for the planet. I was veggie when I bought it and would never have dreamed of becoming a vegan because I wouldn't really know what to eat. But this book is packed full of recipes that are mostly very quick and easy to make - a chuck it all in a blender or food processor deal.

This book is perfect for those who live in a warm climate and it is still very possible to use if you don't. A lot of the food in here is raw food - cold soups, various salads, no-bake cookies, healthy ice creams, etc. But some do require cooking. I think if you live in a country that has cold winters this might be a difficult diet to stick to, so I recommend '125 Best Vegetarian Slow Cooker Recipes' by Judith Finlayson as a complementary cookery book. It has a lot of hearty stews, etc and many are vegan recipes, too.

I feel so much better now I have found so many creative ways to feed my sweet tooth, and all through natural sugars. Definitely would recommend this book, even to meat-eaters who are looking to cut down their meat/fish/processed sugar intake, and especially to those who are gluten or dairy intolerant!

I have read Thrive earlier and liked the information, but the recipes in Thrive were not that spectacular. Here, in Thrive Foods: 200 Plant-Based Recipes for Peak Health, you will find many delicious meals. And my husband loved them too! The first time I made Cheesy Broccoli Bowl he nearly ate it all (the recipe was for 4 servings!) - and he usually dislikes broccoli! Highly recommended!

content relatively poor. basic knowledge for any fitness-oriented person, really does not provide any new info or any new take on fitness and nutrition principles. don't waste your money; could be useful for people who are just starting to live more healthy.

One of the most informative books on life, diet and the environment that you'll ever read. If you have the will power and the desire to follow it then it will change your life for the better. You'll need to shop online for a number of the US centric ingredients though.
