A great start to reading The Railway series

I bought this book to 'test the water' to see if my daughter and I would enjoy the books on which Thomas & Friends is based. Well, we thoroughly enjoyed this book, and on the strength of this book, we bought the box set and have not been disappointed.

This book will appeal to anyone with young children who are fans of the TV series. It introduces and develops the engine's characters, whilst containing in the moral of the stories some good old-fashioned values, such as obedience. The language used is of it's day but still quite modern and easy for young readers and older readers to understand.

The book itself is hardback, hard-wearing and wil withstand the abuse children sometimes give books.

A wonderful introduction to the Railway Series set of books.

Sorry, what's Phillipa Reece on about? Her comments are confounded with some modern TV-inspired title. This is the Original, No. 1 of the Railway Series by the Rev W Awdry. We are introduced to Edward, Gordon and Henry in that order, but NOT Thomas! He had to wait until book no. 2!

The first book about The Fat Controller's Railway (thought hear his The Fat Director)is a true classic. Meet Edward the Blue Engine, Gordon the Big Engine and Henry the Green Engine (At the end he gets painted blue.)
