This is not a collection of cheeky anecdotes about life in 1980's London. It is a brutally honest account of drug addiction, squalor and the hopelessness faced by young people during an uncertain era. This book is not for the faint of heart but I highly recommend it. It is witty, funny, frightening and tragic. Alex Mitchell captures the emotional frenzy and very essence of drug addiction perfectly, with a strangely beautiful narrative. The story tells of the madness and exhilaration, as she lives in the moment with her style of recount. Alex is not glorifying drug taking - but rather showing an addicts descent from crazy fun to... - well I won't spoil it. I laughed,I cried and at times, crawled around my coffee table looking for my jaw. I was aware of the content and genre to a degree, but as I read, it soared high above my expectations.

This is a short read - perfect for a train journey or a bit of time out.
The subject matter is harsh and real, yet the author has created something so beautiful that it takes a while after reading it to take in the dirty, down to earth and matter of factness of the tale.
Although it's set over twenty years ago, times really haven't changed that much.
A really enjoyable and thought provoking read.

Do not confuse this Alex Mitchell with the nice lady who produces lovely books about flowers and plants. 'Three months of chaos' is not a walk in the park - more a wild ride in the dirt of 1980's London. A frank and uncompromising insider's view of the highs and horrors of drug addiction. I was horrified, mesmerized and blown away, all at the same time. What a read! Buy it, read it - you won't regret it.
