Years ago a curse was placed on the town and Sully is the last surviving inhabitant. He knows he can’t escape the past, the town or his destiny and that his time on earth will soon end.
Following the death of her fiance, Jack, Iona heads to Roselock in search of a resolution to her grief. She seeks out Sully wanting his help as he has the gift, or curse, of being able to speak to the dead. Without Sully’s help, Iona cannot move on with her life so reluctantly he decides to helps her but in doing so he learns that Iona is still connected to her fiancé in more ways than she realized.
Can Sully’s ‘curse’ help Iona overcome her all-encompassing grief, and will he be able to avoid the terrible fate he is destined for?
It starts as a love story, moving on to become an intriguing murder mystery entangled with ghostly communications, a search for the truth, historic events and further tragedy.
The characters are so vividly well written that it is almost like watching a movie and the whole book is full of atmospheric intrigue that is so compelling it’s almost impossible to put the book down!
I’m not sure I would class this as a horror, it for me is more of a psychological, supernatural thriller and as the book description warns, there will be no happy endings, the ending is not what you expect. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out the story takes a completely different turn of events!
It is a real page turner that had me enthralled from beginning to end. It starts as a love story, moving on to become an intriguing murder mystery entangled with ghostly communications, a search for the truth, historic events and further tragedy. Every time I thought I knew what would happen next, the author threw in another curve ball to unsettle me again! As the blurb says, in this story ‘there will be no happy endings’. This is definitely one to add to the top of your tbr pile IMHO.
I requested and was given a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion after choosing to read it.
From the beginning I loved Sully and throughout the entire book his character developed so much, after giving up on life and waiting out his last few months, his character had a complete turnaround because of Iona. From the first time they met he cared for her deeply and though he had given up on life he refused to allow her life to be taken so soon and he helped her in every way he possibly could. And I’m gonna stop there to avoid spoilers so all I can say is get reading it’s amazing and I definitely recommend it.
It was written well, I felt that the characters were developed well and you were on this journey with them.
I love that is was more a psychological book with a little supernatural aspect to it but as stated this is definitely not a love story and it definitely does not have a happy ending
Well. This was not the story I was expecting. I don't really know what I *was* expecting but I loved it. Some psychology, some romance, some supernatural horror all mixed together in a compelling story of two broken people, neither of who could escape fate.
This is a great standalone novel and it totally will play with what you think you know is going to happen. Spoiler alert: it won't.
