4.0 out of 5 stars more riveting the more you read 15 May 2014

Unusual story, built around Chechin separatists, a New York City hedge fund, and the actions of a single employee. Framed by the Chechins, our main character has to outsmart the FBI (who is looking for him), and the Chechins he has escaped from - all as he formulates a way to clear his name.

4.0 out of 5 stars A considerable first novel 5 Mar. 2014
By SF Danner - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Author Nathan Williams is a diamond in the rough. He writes knowledgeably about a great many things. I personally enjoyed how, early in the novel, the reader's view shifted between characters. One character would look at another, filling us in with descriptions from various points of view. It was a unique ploy that fleshed out players within the plot. A number of imaginative, futuristic technologies were woven into the plot. The central character demonstrated a wide range of talents and knowhow. The author's vivid and detailed descriptions established settings this reader found immersive. However, I must admit there were many instances where a sheer number of details bogged down pacing to a standstill.

Conversely, most action adventure novels speed along, thrill-a-minute, then suddenly end - as though the publisher's schedule trumped the author's so the book abruptly cuts the reader loose. This author, much to my approval, provided a very complete ending, tying up all the loose ends and creating a very affecting conclusion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but with issues 6 Feb. 2014
By J. Williams - Published on Amazon.com

The greatest limitation of spell checkers is that they don't catch the misuse of homonyms (words that sound alike). This was all too obvious when reading this book as multiple errors of this type were sprinkled throughout. The most egregious of these was the substitution of 'trey' for 'tray' that occurred at least three times on one page.

While I applaud the author's efforts, there was also a sense that a real attempt was made to utilize a wider vocabulary than he actually possessed. Many very good words were used in ways that just didn't quite work.

The entire book didn't quite gel for me for these and other reasons. I give it a C+/B- as a very good effort. Evidently Nathan Williams has really worked to improve this novel, and it's likely that the changes he's made were appropriate and beneficial. What is really missing is the help that a truly professional & experienced fiction editor would have provided. In this era of self-published fiction, that is all too often the step that is missed in the process.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 18 May 2013
By K. Holmes - Published on Amazon.com

I really tried to get into this plot- the idea sounded like it had a lot of potential.

However, I finally gave up after reading only about 20% of the book.

I found it too detailed with computers, financial, stock trading stuff that probably readers other than myself had trouble following. I found myself skipping over several pages at a time from sheer confusion.

Also, did anyone else notice that everyone dressed in black and earth-tones? There was no color anywhere.

A somber read- you have to be very knowledgeable of the subjects in order to get through it.
