As a professional registered veterinary technician, I can honestly say that Three Dog Bakery's cook book contains, practical, healthy and yummy treats for any friend. For those concerned with the onion and other potentially harmful ingredients, those studies have only recently been confirmed by top-notch veterinary laboratories. Recipies are easy enough to change, and with a little imagination you and your pet can get off to a wonderful start in canine cullinary school!

I feel compelled to write this review after my parents received this book as Christmas present from my brother. We are very doggy people but I was quite horrified to read this book - it shows a basic lack of understanding of animal care to say the least. Below I have listed all the things I found in the book which you really should not be encouraging people to give their animals. I would seriously question the quality of the material you are publishing based on the extent of this error. Dogs are not people and trying to anthropomorphise them like this does them no good. I would welcome a book that suggests beneficial or healthy treats to give dogs, but one of the recipes in this book calls for around 10 tablespoons of Honey - surely alarm bells should ring?? Honey contains the same sugars as table sugar -glucose and fructose - and whilst there are beneficial antiseptic and anti-histamine effects of honey, they don't outweigh the bad points.

To all the people saying how much their dogs love the recipes - well DUH. People are so stupid sometimes it gives me a real headache.

Mushrooms
Various species of mushrooms are toxic to dogs, and can cause shock and death. Effects will differ depending on the type ingested, but you should avoid feeding any type.

Garlic
Excessive Garlic is POISONOUS to dogs as are many plants in the allium family - surely you should be mentioning this? Garlic and onions belong to the Allium species, along with leeks, chives, shallots, and scallions. For thousands of years, people have used these aromatic plants for food and medicinal purposes. Cat red blood cells are different from dog red blood cells are different from human red blood cells. All of us have hemoglobin in our red blood cells but the chemical composition is different.

I am a huge fan of Three Dog Bakery and have actually visited their original bakery in Kansas City Missouri as well as their French Quarter and Seatlle locations. We have purchased 3 Dog Bakery products for several years now, through mail order and Lucy, Clark and Jenny (my own three cocker spaniels) have NEVER been disappointed with the cakes and treats.I bought the book hoping to discover whatever their secret is for their amazing treats, but these are all new recipes.I made the Simple Simon bones and the birthday cake last night for Jenny's 2nd birthday party today.Everything turned out beautifully.I think if you enjoy fun and dogs and cooking, I would highly recommend this book!

This book is totally ridiculous, there are blueberry muffins ,apples stuffed with blue cheese , pizzas, and meatloafs, and meatballs, not to mention the chips with paprika and garlic, and chocolate balls! SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THIS HAS TO DO WITH GOOD DOG FOOD, or even TREATS!
And all that garlic which is actually toxic to dogs, I Might just use this book for my new puppy to pee on.. Don't waste your money this is almost a case for the RSPCA to take up.. This would make any dog fat and ill..

The recipes are fun and easy to follow with wonderful photos showing what the end result should look like. The book itself is very charming.

However, lots of the recipes contain wheat and corn. My dog is allergic to both (a very common allergy with dogs as they have not evolved to cope with these complicated grains) so it is a shame to only be able to use about a quarter of the book.

I shall be experimenting with changing the wheat and corn flours with other, more appropriate, ingredients but I would have expected that a company like 3-dog bakery had already taken things like common allergies into consideration.

The recipes that I am able to use are very good.

A fun and cute book which my two daughters enjoyed immensely. Lots of easy recipes which Star and Tasha, (our two stray mutts who adopted us) adore.

I received a copy of the Three Dog Bakery cookbook for Christmas. I immediately ordered several more copies to give to all my dog-loving friends. This book, written by the founders of the Three Dog Bakery chain of dog bakeries, is full of the fun that seems to be the mainstay of their "bakery for dogs". We have already baked two of the recipes. They were very simple to make and to say my dogs loved them would be a great understatement. I'm thankful to still have my fingers! I felt like Jake and Tony (the two most beautiful labs in the world) knew I was cooking something for them. One thing I loved about the 3 Dog Cookbook was the funny artwork and little "factoids" that are on every page. The book is a delight and a must-have companion for any home cooks who love their dogs (or just anyone who loves their dog!). We loved it! Jake and Tony say it's droolicious!
