I first heard about Chris Botti in a review of “A Thousand Kisses Deep” written for the HMV Magazine. I purchased the CD purely on impulse after reading this review, without ever having heard a single track or indeed anything at all by Chris Botti. I certainly was not disappointed. What I particularly liked about this album was its mellow style. Many of the great Jazz trumpet players produce albums full of what I would term as “the clever stuff”. They’re either consistently screeching up into the higher registers or playing extremely intricate improvised passages, which whilst technically brilliant, are not always easy on the ear. On this album Chris occasionally ventures into the high registers and has the odd intricate flourish, but it’s all done with incredible ease and style, in just the right places and in the right quantities.
Chris certainly sets the mood on the first track “Indian Summer”, a clever mixture of smooth mellow Trumpet playing fused with very funky backing rhythms, in a similar style to some of Roy Hargrove’s work. Every track on this album is superb, each track seeming to offer something a little different to the last, but somehow all fused together in the same distinctive mellow styling.
The vocal talents of Chantal Kreviazuk and the classical guitar styling of Dean Parks are beautifully featured in the tracks “The Look of Love”, “Ever Since We Met” and the album’s signature track “A Thousand Kisses Deep”. This is certainly not the last Chris Botti album that I will purchase.
In short, brilliant album. Buy it, enjoy it.

Chris Botti is presently near the top of the tree in the smooth jazz world and this album keeps him there, with superb musicianship and excellent compositions.

Stand out track

Track one a smooth jazz classic with a sitar in the background real chill out music.

Track two a mellow jazz number with Chris out in front and Boney James in the background.

Track three sir the Bacharach classic The Look of Love which is always a hard number to cover but its done justice by Chris and great vocals of Chantal Kreviazuk, a great guitar on this one.

I think this where Chris mixes the tracks well not always relying on his Trumpet he gives other instruments a chance to shine.

Track five has good vocals again.

Track eight has a great beat and features keyboards and flute

Track ten has a hypnotic beat and superb guitar again.

All in all a great album 4.5 Stars

As expected, this is one of his many CD's that are phenomenal. You've got to love Chris Botti. His music is so relaxing and mature.

Some great trumpet playing but horrible backing reduced much of this to "musak". Deeply disappointing
