Bought this hammer on the recommendation of Paul Sellers (well known fella in woodworking circles). I am very glad I did as I have tried normal hammers, fancy and expensive brass faced hammers, wood mallets and rubber mallets for striking my chisels with and while all worked none felt particularly right.

The Thor gives me exactly what I am looking for when doing chisel work. Depending on the cut I can chose my strike to be short and sharp by using the hard white plastic face or if I am looking to drive the chisel a bit deeper the grey rubber faced end really delivers the force.

Most of my chisel work is when I am creating dovetail joints and I have found that less of my pins or pieces are breaking with this hammer as opposed to the other hammers / mallets I was using and I suspect the grey faced rubber face has everything to do with this improvement. Both faces have also come in very handy as a excellent "persuader" for tight fitting joints again mostly being dovetails.

Built quality of the hammer appears to be good but really a whole lot I can say about it as it is after all a hammer with two faces... it feels well balanced in the hand and the chrome of the hammer head looks nice enough if you are into "pretty" tools. As I said above I enjoy having the dual faces of this hammer.

As suggested by Paul Sellers I roughed up the faces on both sides to avoid slippage on the strike of a chisel. I did this using a standard file and seems to work very well.

Only negative point is that it is a bit pricey for what it is and can't felt feeling that a tenner would be closer to the mark for a fair price.

this hammer is great, I bought it based on paul sellers recommendation, it has proven useful for chisel work and fine carving, being just the right weight in the hand. I have not tried other hammers as this is my first one.

The only thing I dislike about it is the varnish on the handle, which I completely removed, then I put several layers of shellac and tung oil, now it feels like silk in my hand, before it was a bit rough, seeing as I use this tool so much it was well worth the effort.

Nice mallet, good weight not to heavy, nice balance and made in England. Actually I have a couple of other Thor mallets and they are good. If you are using standard wood chisels these are rather nice to use. I bought this one as it is smaller than my other ones and I just fancied another hammer/mallet.

It's a soft hammer, what more can I say? Generally well-made and robust, as you would expect from Thor, but lacks the sophistication of some of their older hammers that I have used. The handle could do with a little more wasting at its neck and waist, to give it a little more spring and a more secure grip. Where the handle projects from the head could also do with a bit more finishing, as an awful lot of wood has been left projecting. (I ground this back myself - no charge.)

This is a good tool for any type of heavier pursuading. It is heavy and delivers a proper blow. I use it on my leather stitching chisels and it does a good job. Maybe a bit too good. Construction is solid and it feels good in the hand. One tiny gripe is the handle is very smooth so if you're going to be using it like a traditional hammer it may fly away so take a firm grip.

"Just the ticket", as my old granny used to say.
I use it for all sorts of things but bought it for use as a wood chisel mallet. There is one face that is hard/firm and the other has a bit more resilience which is very useful as a gentle 'persuader' for all sorts of other hobby jobs. Used a lot in my workshop. Highly recommended.

This type was recommended by the woodworker Paul sellers to hit chisels with, instead of a wooden mallet. and he is right does a very good job of it.

Brilliant, this replaced a huge black rubber mallet, same sort of weight but only a third of the size in my tool bag.
Nice to have a soft rubber end for persuading a piece of timber in to place without bruising it & a harder nylon end for a firmer blow.
Well made & good value for money.
