About Thomas & Friends
When Rev. W. V. Awdry attempted to cheer up his sick son Christopher with rhymes in 1942, it turned out to be the origin of a legacy that continues to this day. From one rhyme sprang short stories, which would form the start of The Railway Series, about a group of engines on the fictional Island of Sodor. Rev. W. Awdry’s 26 books would form the basis of the television programme Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, famously voiced by Ringo Starr in its early days. Since shortened to Thomas & Friends, the franchise now consists of over 40 books--after Christopher Awdry took over the writing from his father—as more than 350 television episodes and six movies. The adventures of Thomas & Friends have touched generations and will continue to do so for years to come.
