First of all it says board book on the description, but it isn't, it's just hardback. That's the only quibble and it means that my grandson will have to wait a little bit before I can sit there and read it to him, as he wants to turn the pages all the time and it would get ruined.
apart from that it's full of all the stories you see on the dvd's, word for word. It tells you the background to it all, how the Rev started making them up and so on. The pictures are hand drawn as they were in the original books and for 1p it feels you are buying a bit of history.
Definitely worth buying.

My son was going through a Thomas the tank engine phase and we ended up buying all kinds of toys, movies and books. I ended up picking up this "complete collection" which contained many many stories in a nice hard bound book. The illustrations are beautiful and you do get a nostalgic older feel to the book. I was very happy with this book and it will remain a treasure to my son's personal library.

I had not heard of The Railway Series before one particular 'Day out with Thomas'. A railway enthusiast extolled the original stories and the true life experiences of the Rev Awdry. Interested, I did a little research and found this marvellous book now out of print and only available second hand.
The story telling is different from the stories on television and in collections of 'Thomas and Friends'. Some stories are retold on TV but here you can see how they were originally conceived. There are a surprising number of stories in the book, all short but beautifully told. The illustrations are works of art and my son has inspected each one carefully, like an art critic.
Well worth hunting down a copy in good condition despite the missing word in my copy on page 288. 'Important' is my guess!
