The highly anticipated follow-up to his certified Platinum debut on 19 Recordings/RCA Records! Sophomore album, THIS LOUD MORNING, is produced by Matt Serletic (Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul) and features tracks written or co-written by Cook along with many acclaimed songwriters, including David Hodges, Ryan Tedder, Kevin Griffin and Marti Frederiksen.

Rich lyrics are in abundance as well as rocking choruses, the whole album wraps around you with ease as each song passes.
The wistful, solemn `Goodbye to the Girl', rousing `We Believe', aching `Paper Heart' and crunching `Rapid Eye Movement' and `Circadian'. This album has David Cook's song writing skills stamped all over it to great effect.
This album has something for everyone, and you'll be singing along to the choruses before you know it! Highly Recommended!
David Cook falls into that category, but the real test of a talent show winner is to turn that success into a career, not just a one album swansong.
For "This Loud Morning," David worked with a handful of famous artists and songwriters including Ryan Tedder, David Hodges, Johnny Rzeznik and Marti Frederikson. Produced by Matt Serletic, I was expecting big things from this album.
Well, it's a mixed bag really. There's nothing really wrong it, it's just that there's nothing really special about it either. It's straight up guitar based pop rock that's been done a million times before; it's very mainstream, very commercial and very average.
That's not to say it's a really bad record, because it isn't. The formula is very similar to his platinum selling debut, opening track "Circadian" is a great opener, (odd sounding start though) "We Believe" and "Fade Into Me" ooze single potential before piano based ballad "Take Me As I Am" provides an slower, sombre moment.
"The Last Goodbye" is a shockingly bad choice as lead single though, its uptempo and quite catchy but is easily the albums weakest track by some distance.
Interestingly enough it's in the albums latter stages that you'll find the two best tracks, "Paper Heart" and "Goodbye To The Girl," the latter provides the albums only real standout guitar solo of note.
In summary then, "This Loud Morning" left me with mixed feelings.
I've listened to it many times and it's just missing something for me. As I've said previously its music you've heard before, and you've probably heard better.
If you enjoyed his debut album then I strongly recommend this record, but it's unlikely to win David any new fans otherwise.
Mr Cook, the Jury's still out.
