A delightful book packed with pictures of babies laughing, smiling, playing... all babies will love it! --This text refers to an alternate Board book edition.
About the Author
Sandra Lousada made her name as a portrait photographer in the 1960s, and was commissioned to take pictures of Lawrence Olivier, Vanessa Redgrave and David Hockney, amongst others. Her work regularly appeared in Vogue, Queen and Tatler. Having children of her own sparked off a new interest in the field of child photography, and it is this area of her work for which she has become best known in recent years. Sandra also took the beautiful black-and-white photographs for BABY DAY (0 333 90402 8), BABY PLAY (0 333 90399 4), BABY MOVES (0 333 90400 1) and BABY FACES (0 333 90398 6), winner of the Sainsbury's Baby Book Award 2001. --This text refers to an alternate Board book edition.

The colours on the pages are good with contrasting bubbles which attract little one's attention too. And the words are everyday words that baby will soon learn. I think this book will be useful when a child first starts reading too.
I couldn't recommend it more highly.
The book is only 6 pages long (or 12 depending on which way you look at it) and is made from a thick cardboard-like material. The pages are nice and chunky for little fingers to handle.
The book doesn't have a story as such and instead has different babies carrying out everyday activities, such as playing with toys, crawling and sleeping.
On the very last page is a plastic mirror where the child can look at themselves. Even though my daughter knew the mirror was there, she always acted really surprised when we got to it! It's a great ending to the book as it has the suprise factor and the child can happily look into the mirror long after the book has finished.
The photos are lovely as they are photos of real children in black and white. Babies also seem to love looking at other children. The beauty of this book is that although it has words, children that cannot read can still enjoy it as the pictures are very clear and obvious. My daughter understood what each page meant without having to be able to read the words - she would often flick through it and you would hear her say words like 'baby, toy, car, sleepy, crying, sad, crawl' and so on... For this reason I would say that that the book can help with speech, along with other educational aspects.
We usually read the book together but the older she got the more happy she was just to go through it by herself. I would best recommend this unisex book for children 6 months - 2 years. It's nothing groundbreaking but it's nice enough.
