Product Description

Synopsis

Over the years, James Hollis has offered us many a feast, sometimes of foods we are not used to, but we have grown to appreciate the nourishment of the unique mixtures of bitter and sweet. This time we are offered something different - more of a working partnership than a finished meal. James Hollis shares his personal experiences so that we can find our own understanding.

Having read The Middle Passage by the same author I thought this would be more of the same. In a sense it scopes the same territory but from a very different angle. He divides life into various questions, to ask yourself. He doesn't suggest any answers, this would be too easy, and actually limiting. You are meant to ponder the questions, over your whole life. From grappling with them you discover something. But there are no easy answers and because of that you live a larger life.

This is a most useful little guidebook. It is very well-written & composed of hard-to-come-by experiential advice. Anyone engaged in the adventure of self-discovery, and/or the deep process of Jungian analysis, is bound to find invaluable questions & incisive pointers here.

Along with Under Saturn's Shadow: The Wounding and Healing of Men (Studies in Jungian Psychology by Jungian Analysts), by the same author this book is imperative for any conscious person intent on inner growth.
The importence if inner growth should be flagged up for many men lost in space and seemingly unable to grow when old age arrives into Tribal Elders.
We have to pull ourselves up the steep slope alonside of Sisyphus by our own boot laces.
Where we are heading we can't say for certain but the quest leads ever forward.
This book is an advance in the ideas of Jung with a trip into the deeper inner world that lies beyond.
