My initial reaction on hearing this for the first time was what ARE these guys on and can I have some please?!
The music speaks for itself but there's far more emotion in this recording that on the trio's previous disc. The addition of Hammond, harpsichord and strings just adds another dimension to wonderful music creatively arranged with bags of humour, warmth and just the teeniest hint of the outrageous. It sounds like the trio have broken free of their shackles, and, to be honest, the Vivaldi is just down right sexy and the Scarlatti - surely a closet groover of his time - also really lights my candle...but it's ALL great and I LOVE it!!
So what would JS Bach make of all this? Well, I'd like to think that the Great Man is smiling down on DRW and team from his celestial console thinking just how great it would be to get together with these guys for a jam over a few pints.
