If you read all the reviews, most prior to the Autumn 2012 issue refer to numerous mainly U S releases that may or may not have been released when the film was out of copyright. I myself have been stupid enough to buy one of those titles and can only agree with the other reviewers. This Studio Canal release dating from 2012, however is a monumental increase in Video and Audio qualuty. The print is showing it's age and may never get to the stage of the Blu Ray restorations that Hammer and Ealing are receiving. That having said, this is probably the best you'll ever get. NB The last image on this print indicates it was an Embassy release, which would have been the original US distibutor. Amicus who made the film were (to my knowledge) never distributed by Embassy in the UK) so this print was for overseas release but is far better than those releases by other companies. NB As freddie Francis directed both this and the Man In A Suitcase episode Which way did he go McGill?, it looks like he might have shot them back to back as the garage is featured in both. If you are interested, The Terronauts, 'sister' film to They Came.. is to be release shortly by Network DVD in the UK and features a pre-Doomwatch Simon Oates amongst other in the cast.

This is one of my favourite Sunday afternoon films and anything with American star Robert Hutton heading the cast is worth watching and the bonus here is Michael Gough in a way out performance. He was wonderful and when full on could not be beaten. The film is a bit of fun and yes it never went anywhere near Cornwall but I don't mind. The picture quality is excellent with wonderful colour. These were the kind of film that often made up a 2 film bill at our local cinema and Amicus made many more horror themed films into the 1970s. I shall be watching this film again and will enjoy actor spotting as this is a who's who of character actors of the period. I will not be frightened or intimidated by Michael Gough's character.
Robert Hutton was interested in science fiction and appeared in a few films with that theme. He lived in the UK for several years at least and appeared in a number of ITC series. He was a dependable lead/ guest star and after he left the UK and returned to the USA he seems to have made no more films. He had a sad end after a fall left him with a broken back and paralysed.
Good value and I hope Studiocanal continue with their release schedule.

The story is an enjoyable story from Amicus. It reminds me of a poor man's Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. However the quality of the DVD transfer is dire! I haven't seen such poor quality transfers since watching old video in the 1980s! I am surprised that my DVD player didn't "spit" out the disc in disgust!

Hey, if it has shots of giant radar telescopes tuning in to the celestial symphony of outer space, the movie has to be good, right? Even if it features a dude wearing a colander on his head? Uh, I think not. Despite its great title, They Came From Beyond Space doesn't exactly impress. It starts OK, but once you spend what seems like an hour watching a guy try to sneak his way onto a farm, a lot of the magic is lost. I did like the main character, though. First of all, having a metal plate in your head is just plain cool - that's a well-established fact (driving around in a convertible roadster, sans seatbelt, is even cooler-- especially when that plate in your head came courtesy of an earlier automobile accident). Second of all, Dr. Curtis Temple isn't your average namby-pamby scientist; he's no Captain Kirk (although he does do a mean Kirk imitation whenever he's told to pretend that he just got zapped by some kind of subsonic gun) , but he can hold his own in a fight, even when his opponent keeps smashing him plate-in-head-first into posts. He does need some serious work on his spying and stealth skills, however. Fortunately for him, most of the bad guys are just plain dumb most of the time.

Let me take you back to the glory days of yester-year, back before weightlessness in space was even invented, when all you needed for a spaceship control room was some dials, a machine that goes ping, and miscellaneous whatsits, and where proto-MacGyvers could reverse engineer super-advanced alien technology in a matter of hours. Into this halcyon world a meteorite falls - actually several meteorites. No big deal, right? Well, what if I told you that they all fell close together in an obvious formation? Interested now?

At last a crisp clear print from studio canal of this sci-fi film from 1967, if like me you have tried to obtain a clear print from a region 1 dvd or last years poor quality from elstre hill which looks like a 4th generation copy from an old vhs you will be pleased that this version has been lovingly restored.
As for the plot, well, aliens arrive in a meteor shower at night, take over the bodies of humans and start a plague.
They also sends rocket ships to the moon, its like a Jon Pewtrwee Dr Who crossed with the Avengers and UFO, all gone a bit wrong, but great fun still the same.
If you like old films from that era like The Body Stealers and Night of the big Heat then this dvd is for you.
