"My favourite historical novelist, stylish, romantic, sharp, and witty. Her sense of period is superb, her heroines are enterprising, and her heroes dashing. I owe her many happy hours" (Margaret Drabble)
"Sparkling" (The Independent)

There are many contradictions for the modern reader, but this is historical fiction romance and you have to take it as such. Although the poverty, lack of rights for women, power of the nobility and social division is sadly accurate!
Major whinge- The new cover is a travesty, totally non- reflective of the characters and plot
Have not read any Georgette Heyer for a long time and when I saw this knew I wanted to reacquaint myself with these tales this is the first one I have reread and it's wonderful and I am hooked, Have just finished reading this and I am now going to read some more of the books
The story is as witty and as fresh as when I first read it years ago
