Your dad’s Hard Drive cooler, this is not! Whilst this thing looks ridiculous and meme-worthy in the photos, let me tell you…
It dropped my temps by more than half (controller temp 80c (stock heat spreader) down to 39c under load. Functionally, it’s rock solid, although not sure on double-sided boards as back plate is thin and can’t speak for thermal conductivity between the two halves)
Fitting and installation were a breeze, as thermal pads come pre-applied to the cooler and back plate, so peel the plastic off, stick them on, squeeze together and tighten the side screws.
I would have liked to see them give a little more space between the heat pipes to be able to fit anything but the pre-included screw driver (which is magnetised by the way-very handy) between them, which is necessary to tighten down the SSD into the socket. These heat pipes are plenty beefy for their application though! That’s my only complaint about fit and finish.
For the price I paid of a tenner, I wasn’t expecting much, but this is really value for money if your system allows for the space!
