I, personally, found this so slow paced that I skipped over quite a few sections of the book in the hope that something more enlivening might happen. That never happened and it remained as a somewhat monotone narrative that failed to bring any excitement.
The book description gives a sneak preview: ‘Henry Green has one of those faces. People think they know him when they don’t. They think they can trust him when they can't. This has got Henry, and other people, into a lot of trouble. Now Henry is becoming famous for being famous. But fame is something Henry definitely does not want. It is not because he has become a target for fraudsters. It is because he is not who he says he is. He is in hiding. But Henry’s true identity is not the biggest secret in his life.’
The story unfurls in small acts, at first feeling slight to touch, then building in emotional substance. Laced with dry humour it became a very humorous and entertaining story. I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the novel in my head to see if I could figure more out.
It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a first-class Mystery, Thriller & Suspense with perfect pacing. Not much is as it appears here, which is just the way fans of Mystery, Thriller & Suspense will want it. Highly recommended. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I think, this is a great book for anyone who likes football, puzzles, board games, or any other strategic thinking or problem solving. The author's journalistic background ensures the writing is lively, easy to read and to the point. There's humour but also plenty to make you think about more serious issues, such as the security of our personal privacy. I won't say more, as I don't want to ruin the surprises.
Some interesting tacks in the writing style and personally I found it pretty unputdownable right up to the last page. Oh! and thankfully it definitely avoided my pet hate of a dangling ending. All the loose ends are well and truly tied.
