There’s Only One Simon Garner is everything you’d expect from a football player who drank lots of beer, smoked a ciggie at half time and even did a spell in the nick. However, it’s not the usual text book footballers autobiography you’d expect from a man who’s a legend in his own right. If you don’t want to read the usual ‘superstar with a big revelation to make to sell more copies’ dross then this could be what you’re looking for. A very witty insight into lower leagues football, and recommended to all football fans, not least Blackburn, Wycombe and Celtic followers.

I bought the book as I went to school with Simon and though we were never friends he was always a pretty decent guy and had a reputation for smoking 20 a day at school. The book itself is pretty well written and gets a great dig at the ex headmaster who we both felt the same about!!

Throughout his career, Simon smoked and drank but always put in 100% which is why he is still such a legend at Blackburn all those years after stopping playing.

A very honest and human book and a shame that football doesn't allow space for characters like this any more .. the game is the worse for it.

A frank and open insight into Simon's career, both during his hay-days at Ewood Park and then the slide down the football pyramid.

You have to feel for Simon who despite a fantastic career just missed out on the era of high wages, not that he complained as his only love seemed to be getting a chance to play football!

A must read for Rovers fans!

Loved this book from start to finish. It tells us how it was and how it should be. If you only read one footballers autobiography then this should be it.

This is just a must read for any Rovers fan who followed them through the 1980s and 90s. Simon Garner was always a fans favourite because he scored goals and seemed to enjoy playing football and playing for the Rovers, he was actually doing what we all really wanted to do. This book confirms all we thought of Simon Garner: a fun loving character who just wanted to play for us and scored goals. It is a splendidly candid view of his career, the ups and downs and the brilliant comment on his contempories, both good and bad. I loved his simple of Andy Crawford as being a "tosser".
The great thing about it was the fact that it was written as though you were talking to him, you really were talking to Simon Garner.
