Feel good short story
on 13 June 2013
This is a well written enjoyable story, mostly expressed from the view of a 12 year old foster child. The descriptions of horse behaviour and body language are excellent - the author clearly understands horse psychology, and it's lovely to read about someone using good horsemanship rather than old fashioned "bully the horse"-manship.
Only three stars because the whole thing is all a little bit too contrived, and obvious. The kindly, messy, understanding horsey family, versus the dull, coiffed, perfectly tidy but emotionally unintelligent suburban family. Not much question how this was going to end, just a slight interest in how it was going to get there.
Only took a couple of hours to read, and I enjoyed those couple of hours of escapism into the perfect, sweet smellling world of an equine and foster child rehab yard.
