Product description
Review
From the reviews:
"Another excellent book in theory of statistics is by Mark J. Schervish. … Readers will enjoy reading this book to see how differently the theory can be presented … . This well written book contains nine chapters and four appendices. ... Each chapter has both easy and challenging problems. The book is suitable for graduate level statistical theory courses. Examples and illustrations are well explained. I liked the author’s presentation, and learned a lot from the book. I highly recommend this book to theoretical statisticians." (Ramalingam Shanmugam, Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, Vol. 74 (11), November, 2004)

Schervish is a book for people who aspire to have a really thorough and rigorous understanding of mathematical statistics. This is not required for most people. For example, very few academic economists, even those who specialise in things like time series, will have an understanding of the measure theoretic foundations of the subject to anything remotely approaching the level of this book.
Having said that, for aspiring specialists it is an essential. For example, anyone study for a PhD in mathematical statistics should know the material in this book. To find another book that covers the material as extensively and rigorously as Schervish would be hard to find.
