Format: Paperback
This is an ambitious book. Leadership consultant and lecturer C. Otto Scharmer provides a theoretical framework for understanding the changes society faces and provides suggestions for institutional and personal transformation. Scharmer explains his process and its goals obsessively, even repetitively, walking you through multidisciplinary examples from his own experience, history and economics. He provides diagrams and breaks down his theories into numbered steps and rules. Still, you may find the book challenging, mainly because Scharmer is dealing with such large issues, but also because his ideas and vocabulary can get mystical. This book requires time and patience aplenty, but if you are open to such reflections, it could be for you. getAbstract recommends it to managers interested in personal change, organizational culture and futurism.

This might be an awesome book but it's so huge that only an HR professional would probably bother to read it. I guess it's used for academic study. Not a book for bed time. If you are looking for something on Theory U you'd need to be totally committed to get through this.

This is an important and informative book. The book defines Theory U a model of looking at learning from the post, and learning from the future as it emerges. The book can seem like a hard read and times, and also daunting in the volume of its content. However, if you take the time to read the book, you will see its real value - well worth the effort! My copy is marked with tags of content that I will revisit and the theory of this book is something that I am sharing with colleagues. If you read "Presence" which set out the concept of Theory U, do read this book as it completes the journey.

in a way i actually think that zen/ mindfulness can lead to better corporate leadership as the leader becomes more aware, open and authentic. but one of the central tenets of budhdism is that fixed teaching deteriorate the thusness (thagatha) of the moment, thus becomming inauthentic.

theory u is an attempt to apply mindfulness and zen to leadership. but such attemps are reified into a fixed theory, thus shooting itself in the foot. if you attach to anything, buddha, buddhism, zen, mindfulness it will ruin your practice. theory U is quite the same. however, at least buddha and buddhism warns against fixation.

I find this one of the more important books I have read. I appreaciate the use of J. Campbell's Hero's Journey as a overall framework. I think comparing learning from the past, (Kolb, etc.) with learning from the emergin future interesting and informative. I think being able to move from learning from the past to learning from future and back an exciting idea.

A dreadfully tedious book fully of ill-defined jargon made up by the author. Numerous unnecessary references to historical figures who did or did not use this approach. This is lunatic fringe decision-making backed by 500 pages of waffle.
