This album is a little abstract but I don't think there is anything wrong with reinventing yourselves, this album is good but I think their last albums from 'Game Theory, Rising Up, How I Got Over' and 'Undun' are incredibly clever and I personally think that those album is by far their best works to date because of the dark nature of their lyrics/tone of the tracks. Their earlier albums are in a class of their own and for a band that has been around for as long as they have and produce albums that makes you want to listen to them as regularly as I have is very impressive.

It is a great shame that their studio albums since Tipping Point have such short playlists, it would have been fantastic and worth the wait if they had combined two of the albums from that point up to date would reinstate their status as 'The Legendary Roots Crew'.

Nevertheless, I will always buy their works as I have all of their albums and in my opinion they just seem to get better with time (even if their is a moment of abstractness).

There is little I want to say about this great record. It has some eyebrow-raising moments throughout. It appears to divide opinion like no other Roots record. The good thing about this type of brave experimental musical evolution though is if you like it, you really like it. That is how I feel about 'And Then You Shoot Your Cousin'. I have to stop myself just hammering it on repeat play so as not to play it to death.
There is not much a review like this can do. You just have to listen to it. Who wants The Roots to just keep churning out Things Fall Apart or Phrenology time and time again? All great bands evolve. This is evolution, and in all the right ways.

If you like The Roots you won't be disappointed. They are still evolving and rap music,, with The Roots' production and lyrical values, is improved by the album!

The Roots..... I always tell people, they could put a rat in a can, rap over the noise it makes and I'll still like it......
I am shocked that I 'really' didn't like this one. I'm blaming myself because I feel I just didn't get it. I give albums like this months after their initial listen to listen again. I'm about due and am not hopeful.
Here's hoping.

More than Happy wit the content, quenches my roots thirst for the short term. To short though. I know we have been through the madness of 74 minute albums and if the content is worthy the 45-50 minutes will do, but 34 is cutting t a bit in my opinion for a full album. If this was still the days of cassette tapes this would be doubly irritating... to long to fill half a C60 and to short to fill half a D90 without repeating tracks just to satisfy the auto-reverse! ... None the less enjoy and cherish what we do have here, word!

very good, could've been longer but it was short enough to enjoy in a single listening session on multiple occasions.
