I found this book charming and gentle on the reader. It is a collection of passages penned by the significant women of early twentieth century Ireland. The collector allows the women to talk for themselves and her intrusion is light and never strident. The women involved are allowed to create their own stridency. Such careful choice of passages deserves the height of praise and the women of the day are shown so sensitively in this book that you come away from it as a reader, feeling that you have heard them speak themselves. This is a wonderful book, which I recommend to anybody and everybody interested in this period of Irish History.

A much needed recounting of the activities of the women of the Rising. I highly recommend it.
