Product Description

Product Description

Paul (Peter Fonda, Easy Rider) is a TV commercial director whose wife, Sally (Susan Strasberg, Psych-Out), has left him. Plunged into a personality crisis, he asks his friend John (Bruce Dern, Silent Running), a self-styled guru and advocate of LSD, to guide him on his first trip . They go to a party at their friend Max's (Dennis Hopper, Easy Rider), score some acid and return to John's to let the drug take its course. There, Paul is plunged into a mind-altering realm of extreme beauty and sheer terror, the like of which he has never known before.

Written by acclaimed actor Jack Nicholson (The Shining) and directed by legendary producer Roger Corman (Masque of the Red Death), this seminal slice of cinematic psychedelia was banned for an astonishing 36 years, but is now available on Blu-ray for the very first time.

Thanks so much for this release! Being an EASY RIDER nut this was one of my most 'sought after' discs. WONDERFUL HD master. Great colors, nice film look, but not too grainy, just a very good master - I hate it when vintage 35mm films look too clean. I also love the fact that the main feature is the Corman-cut rather than the AIP cut. It runs 81 minutes, rather than the 79 or 80 minutes stated here and there. The extras are nice (in Germany we never had those, only the old MGM DVD with the trailer). With the AMERICAN DREAME released in the US recently all we need now is THE LAST MOVIE !!!

the superb title music by electric flag sets the scene for one of the most adventurous of cinematic offerings.having been banned for some twenty-odd years it's nice to see this finally appear on proper dvd release.just why it was banned is unknown and seemingly absurd, of course it portrays drug taking with little emphasis on the dangers surrounding such indulgence, but to argue depiction of such behaviour promotes others to follow suit would suggest that all films with any violence or portayal of war should also be banned.if a subject can be conceived it should be allowed to be shown.to try to dismiss a vital part of sixties society would be to mould history in a false manner.besides the beauty of the film renders all objections irrelevant.it offers stunning visuals and great actors.A real slice of psychedelic culture and despite seeming slightly dated, has it's heart in the right place.far out man!

This is a wonderful low-budget grindhouse movie from Rogar Corman, yet Amazon have put the wrong running time, the correct running time is 76 minutes, which sad to say means the film is still cut by 9 MINUTES of its orginal running time and yet its still a 18, just a sad sign of our times!

New outfit Signal One have done a terrific job here, presenting Corman's fascinating film in exemplary fashion with fine picture and sound and good extras. Bruce Dern is especially good as a Timothy Leary style guru (this was the role that screenwriter Jack Nicholson apparently coveted for himself) but this is a highly unusual film all set in the course of a few hours but full of good things (as well as a little padding, as you'd expect from Roger Corman). If you have any interest in 1960s movies and California culture in general, you should see this.

Directed by Roger Corman. Starring Peter Fonda as the tripper and Bruce Dern and the californian LSD guide this film is hard to match for psychedelic cheesyness. Filmed in the midst of the Haight Ashbusy Californian psychedelic rollercoaster this film tries hard to convey the archetypal "scene" of sixties.
Crude special effects cant capture or portray the awesome depth and power of LSD but I think Fonda's naked thrashing about captures it just fine.
Summary: Take LSD and get naked for best effects!
Groovy man. Can you dig it.

I was pleased to see Jack Nicholson's screenplay and the authenticity of that psychedelic (San Francisco) period; manner and fashion.

Written By Jack Nicholson !
Directed by Roger Corman !
Featuring Dennis Hopper , Peter Fonda , Bruce Dern & Susan Strasbourg ! ! ! ?
This Films Got The Lot ! Very Thin plot line , Divorce , Heartbreak , ambivalence ( the whole point of the film is the trip not the story )
A great per -courser exercise, before Easy Rider ,in trying to get the message across by a bunch of stoned tripped out Hollywood L.A actors in 1967.
Awesome Music By The Electric Flag , incredible Psychedelic Light Shows that show the complexity of apparent Primitive Effcects,
some brilliant camera work ( story goes all the cast and crew and Roger Corman , who had not had LSD , went up to Big Sur and all tripped , to get the feel for the coming film shoot )
Judge for yourself, but i think it worked a treat.
Get This , It's Great !
