I needed this book for a module that I was completing at university based on Sikhism. Owen Cole was recommended as an academic whose knowledge on Sikhism is vast and intuitive! His book looks in depth at the beliefs and practices of the Sikh community, and he explains these in great depth, ensuring that the reader not only understands what rituals are preformed but the reason why. Cole also looks very briefly at challenges which face Sikhism, and tackles issues such as equality and caste, which are arguably the point of extensive and continual debate in Sikhism.
Overall, it is an excellent book, which has been well written. I would definitely recommend to someone who is either undertaking a course on Religious Studies or obviously one that focuses on Sikhism. Would also recommend to the general reader, as it acquaints you with an in-depth understanding of the Sikh faith, which is essential considering the multicultural, diverse society we live in.
