Enjoyed this book so much that I've bought all her other ones.
Very epic, there is always something going on, this book never gets boring.
Very well written also, it gives you a real insight as to the troubles some people had to face.
Cathy's character is very strong but also very vulnarable. I did like her character, because even though she has been through a load of pain and heartache, she still survives. The sympathy for her was just pouring out of me, rejoycing when something good happened to her, but then the bad always comes back to her, even at the end, I cried.
Because she didn't deserve what happened to her, she was overall, a genuine, good person. But with the minimal of people who actually cared about her, she didn't really stand a chance. But with the few friends she makes along the way. Desrae for example. She pulls thorugh. Just about.
Also, Eammons character, I did like him, even though he doesn't really come across as a good person I still feel sympathy for him. Because he never really had a chance in life. Not really.
I was shocked at what he did to Cathy torwards the end, but I really believed he loved her. Mabye not in the most conventional way, but in his own.
I was shocked also at the romance between Cathy and Bill Gates, I really didn't see that one coming.
But thats what's so great about this book, so full of suprises and drama it's impossible to put down.
I finished this book within a couple of days. As I said, Very addictive.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good read.
This was fantastic, a true pager tuner, if you don't enjoy this book i'll eat my shorts!!!
The secondary characters (of which some are brilliantly conceived) are under developed and lack what would be wonderful back stories. Tantalising bits of plot are dangled and then go no-where, never to be mentioned again. This spoilt it for me in the end and I was left feeling that the book had finished but that I hadn't and that maybe I had missed some things that would give me a sense of completion. As it was it felt under done and a little, if not lazy, then forgetful, as if MC had begun several separate arcs and then forgotten them in favour of the "it's on it's off its on again" tedium.
Several times where the parallel storylines were developed they were gratuitous and had no bearing on the central story whatsoever....shoehorned in for....variety maybe or possibly shock value. Ones that would have had more impact (I.e the mother) were swept away so quick you could miss them altogether and yet were instrumental in the inaugural chapters of the story.
Overall it's written nicely and the main storyline is neat if a little obvious. The main protagonists don't garner any sympathy and the end is flat.
Read if you are a fan or if you like transparent stories and 2d characters but I wouldn't bother with any more of her books after this, particularly if this is considered one of the best.
