Initially, I was tempted by the sheer bulk of this work, but after I had owned it for a couple of days and the "novelty" had worn off a little, I realised that the actual amount of detailed information contained within was fairly small. The book is mainly photographs and there is very little text present, just a couple of pages as the beginning of each chapter. Overall, certainly not bad, but I would advise any potential purchaser to think long and hard before buying a copy at the full price !

This book continues to be the definitive history of the Rolex Watch Company.
The second edition is however a slight disappointment because it has not been
radically altered or updated. The additional material is largely confined to
the new models that Rolex produce rather than showing more of the old models.
Because this book covers all Rolex models it is sketchy in its photographic
content and whilst the new models are interesting it is a shame that some of
the books original mistakes have carried through into the second edition, I
was particularly sorry to see that some of the incorrect watch model numbers
have not been corrected - I well remember trying to find a 6238 Submariner
model only to later discover that it didn't exist and was a misprint of the
6538 model.
It is hard to be too critical of this book though - it is still an enormous
work and will continue to give pleasure to anyone with an interest in
Rolex watches.

This is a very authoritve book that combines history, very clear pictures with witty and sometimes personal views and observations of the writers. An excellent reference as well as being of interest to those who are already interested and those that have just picked the book up to pass the time. Highly reccommended.

Don't let the word "unauthorized" throw you--for the serious collector or the merely curious, this is the most comprehensive guide to Rolex watches available today. From the company's humble beginnings through present day, Dowling and Hess walk you through the making of a legend, with beautiful photographs and illustrations, period advertisements, and painstaking detail that makes for a fascinating read.

Dont let the price put you off. This is THE book on Rolex watches. Its about 10 years old now, but still packs a punch. All pictures are in colour and it is full of detail. If you are into Rolex, you need this book.

Pricey - but so worth it. After this book, you will never need another wristwatch book. Beautifully illustrated with hundreds of large colour photographs from the Submariner to Explorer to the first ever Rolex. It was my husband's favourite Christmas Present.
