Although now a chronic disease , hiv/aids is withought a doubt the illness that carries the heaviest stigma around . Science has shown that there are very specific ways through which it can be transmitted and that this is a preventable disease but instead of compassion , the infected individuals have to battle the ostracism ( and often acts of violence and pure aggression in some countries ) their community puts them through .
Marvelyn Brown is a young woman who got the virus at the tender age of 19 . Instead of keeping a low profile and trying to hide her situation , she had the guts to speak out and become an activist . No matter what you think about the writting style of this book , the story has it's own power and is inspiring and at the same time heartbraking . The book , the girl , the cause ( fighting the severe social prejudice towards hiv/aids positive individuals ) , all of them deserves everyone's praise and attention .
