Back in the days of power cuts and perms, the only way football fans could see the stars of the day on TV was through programmes like Saturday night's Match of the Day and The Big Match on Sunday afternoon.
With legendary managers Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley at the helm and household names like Kevin Keegan, Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish wearing the famous all red strip, Liverpool dominated this period of mutton-chop sideburns and muddy pitches. The Liverpool Big Match features a number of great games from the 1970s and early 1980s, including an unforgettable 7-0 thrashing of Tottenham in 1978 and a brilliant 4-2 defeat of Wolves in 1972, with old Crazy Horse himself, Emlyn Hughes, scoring a gem.
This DVD relives an era which has taken on legendary status.

I bought it not knowing which games were featured, and stupidly I thought that ITV would not be cynical enough to simply re-hash the "Match of the 70's - Big Match (2009). How wrong I was :(
Bearing in mind that LFC were on telly more than most in the 70's and 80's you'd think ITV would be able to find a few games in the archives that have not been released before. Instead, EVERY game featured has been on the afore-mentioned release or on "Liverpool Team of the 70's". If you own either of these DVD's my advice is DO NOT BUY THIS LAZY, SHODDY, PUERILE EFFORT.
If the content was not bad enough, we also have to sit through cheeky chappie Rodney Marsh as our "host". Unfortunately, Rodders appears to have been wheeled straight out of a home, and even though he only has to learn a few lines, he actually reads them off large pieces of A3 paper. By the time he said "Come on You Reds", and was ready to shove his home-made autocue 'darn sarf'.
Honestly, they would have got a better performance off Brian Moore..... (Yes. I know.)
There is also some creative editing during game #2, where Gerry Sinstadt gleefully tell us, "John O'Hare gets his 2nd goal of the game to put Derby level...." Which is fair enough, except they forget to show us his first goal.
For the record, these are the games featured:
Norwich 1 LFC 4 1978, LFC 3 Derby 2 1971, Villa 0 LFC 3 1977, LFC 7 Spurs 0 1978, LFC 5 Derby 0 1978, LFC 3 QPR 1 1976, LFC 4 Wolves 2 1972, LFC 3 Palace 0 1979, LFC 3 Leicester 0 1971.
Like I say, ALL these games have featured on other, much better, DVD's, so if you really want a 'classics' Liverpool Disc I recommend 'Liverpool FC Match of the 70's the Big Match' (the one with Kevin Keegan on the front cover, if only for the bonus content.
However, if you already own Match of the 70's, but are still desperate to spend your Christmas money at Amazon, may I humbly suggest you buy 4 copies of THE JUSTICE COLLECTIVE single? Keep a copy for yourself and give the other 3 to your nearest and dearest as New Year's gifts. At least the money will have gone to a better cause.
Rodney Marsh may not have played for Liverpool, but he introduces the programmes and takes you right back to the days of the Kop and of the very best days Bill Shankly.
