This is great Arnie action! IT may be a little far fetched in the basic story but who cares. The Sherrif of a small town is an ex drug enforcement officer who has seen too much blood. The town is almost empty because the residents have gone off for the week end.
A vicious drug baron has escaped for custody and is racing for the Mexican border with only Arnie and a couple of deputies and a couple of towns people to help him. Even the FBI cannot stop the criminal.
From there on in it is all blood and thunder with the usual short sharp humour thrown in.
Think of the early Arnie film Commando. Add a lot more experience and action. Who could ask for more on a saturday evening when all the TV stations are poumping the usual rubbish for the brain dead to watch.

Sheriff Owens is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for the face off.

Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his much-anticipated return to the big screen in Korean director Kim Jee-woon's hard-hitting U.S. directorial debut.

I enjoyed this film as i'm a fan of Arnie and enjoy his films since Conan the Barbarian.

This movie is full of intense, bloody action, exciting car chases and funny one liner's. The film never takes itself too serious (which is good thing) and is surprisingly funny throughout.

Very well directed by Kim Jee-woon, good acting all round. Enjoy!

overall a great action movie that action fans as well as schwarzenegger fans will like. Those of you expecting to see academy award winning performances or great story telling should probably avoid this. This is a straight up action movie filled with unapologetic violence, the way it should be. The movie starts off a little slow but once the action picks up it never lets go. Arnold may be looking his age a little bit but that doesn't slow him down at all. Johnny knoxville is also good as the comedy sidekick and he has his moments to shine, him and arnold are definitely an odd couple.

This was a great solo comeback nearly 10 years after terminator 3 was released with arnie in the main role.
Arnie got more screening time in the expendables 2 movie and then released this action flick which is a great 80s old school just like we used to know.
The movie was exactly like it should be and i will add it to my arnie dvd collection.
buy it and enjoy...

Pretty far fetched but who cares! Great Film, typical Arnold style like back in the old days.
Full of Action with some comedy and "sad bits" The whole cast seems to work together.
Didn't really any boring moments.
"I'm the Sheriff" Great Line as well as when he says "Old" referring that he's getting on a bit.
After such a while away, he's still got it.
If you like his movies, and want an action packed fun film, then watch this!

By the way, very impressive to see a super fast sports car, driving hours and hours and not stopping once to fill up petrol. Very economical and clever driving LOL

'The Last Stand' helped to mark Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the big screen after his career in politics, and a crackerjack return it is too for The Governator.
Big Arnie plays Ray Owens, the veteran sheriff of Sommerton, a sleepy Arizona desert town near the Mexican border. A Mexican drug baron (Eduardo Noriega) escapes from the custody of FBI agent John Bannister (Oscar winner Forest Whitaker) and his team, and races towards the border in a souped up sports car, where a team of tooled-up cutthroats is ready to ensure that he makes it back into Mexico come what may. All that stands in their way is Owens and his quirky bunch of deputies, who are equally determined to ensure that the forces of law and order will prevail. Naturally, all manner of mayhem duly breaks loose.
With 'The last Stand', scriptwriter Andrew Knauer and Korean director Kim Jee-woon have fashioned just about the perfect vehicle for Schwarzenegger. On the hokum scale of 0 to 10, it's about 8.5, and as subtle as a brick behind the ear. Never mind, just buckle up, suspend your disbelief and revel in a high octane effort that's chock full of excellently fashioned action pieces and knockabout humour. Super support from the likes of Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzman and Rodrigo Santoro also helps to keep the whole thing rolling along at a clip. It's 'High Noon' meets 'The A Team', and a whole lot better than you might have imagined that it would be. Enjoy.
