What a wonderful idea and collection of books by this publisher. This one takes the theme of Hokusai's Great Wave and weaves a story around how the picture might have come to be, ending with a reproduction of the painting. Half way between A4 and A3 in size, this is a full colour, glossy production, with beautiful double page illustrations in the style of Hokusai, but without the true woodcut style and detail. As a fan of Japan and Hokusai, it was bound to appeal, but the story and idea are a fantastic way of introducing children to art and paintings in an enjoyable way. Even includes details of the artist and paintings on the back endpapers, on this occasion enclosed within the traditional Boys Day carp, which also continues the theme of the story which is about a boy from the sea. Highly recommended and I'm now going to investigate others in the series.
