I remember the first time I saw this film and its sequel and wanted to replace my VHS's. The performances in the first two films are quite incredible and, quite rightly, resulted in Oscars and plaudits galore. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the third and final part of the trilogy. Shame really but at least with Parts I and II I can indulge my viewing "must haves" at weekends in lieu of fairly indifferent TV programmes. Many thanks for making this possible and for ensuring good packaging as well.

I really don't get the fuss about those films.
Film one is good enough, thanks to Al Pacino who's brilliant! But Marlon Brando talking through cotton balls in his mouth? You just don't know if you want to laugh or cry really.... The photography is barely existent, and the plot is fine but not that riveting!
Film 2: they should have kept just one story. The story with de niro is absolutely without interest and goes nowhere, it has no point really and the street scenes are directly poorly, look so fake!!! Terrible. The main story is saved once again by al Pacino. But the plot is drowning itself in useless twists which have no tension to them.
Film 3: catastrophe! They killed most characters in the previous films so have to introduced a whole lot of new "family" people you never heard of before. The character of al pacino becomes a silly old wimp!!!! Utterly rubbish, no sense whatsoever and no respect for the legacy of the two previous films.
In summary: it's OK. Al Pacino is fascinating. Good point to Diane Keaton. But overall poorly directed, poorly shot, and some outrageously silly characters and scenes.

Absolutely fantastic. Looks astonishing in Bluray and the box set is 4 standard size cases within a cardboard box so it will take up a bit of space on your shelf but in all honestly it deserves too.

The Godfather is one of the most well crafted and thought out gangster movies ever made, though it is not really that violent and that is even after the studio had told them they had to put more violence in, otherwise they would not fund the movie. It is because of the lack of violence, that I prefer Goodfellas over the godfather, because Goodfellas is more violent. So if you are looking for a gangster movie that is probably the best thought out, well crafted and superbly directed, but not quite that violent gangster movie out there, then this is for you. If you are looking for a gangster movie that is more violent, but still a great gangster movie, then I would suggest Goodfellas or Casino. Before I forget, the restoration of the movies and the extra features are amazing. The restoration was closely watched by Francis Ford Coppola himself to make sure it was done right and not destroy the look of the movie.

A wonderful restoration of this classic film trilogy, overseen by their director, Francis Ford Coppola. I bought this DVD set for my Dad, who loves these movies. In fact, I got my love for them from him.

The Godfather is the original classic from 1972, based on Mario Puzo's novel. It tells the story of a New York Mafia family and their personal and gangland dramas over a number of years in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The film is utterly absorbing, a great story made and acted to perfection.

The Godfather Part II (1974) is the first sequel, and continues the story of the family while deploying flashbacks to their origins in Sicily and then turn-of-the-century New York (these sequences based on parts of Puzo's novel as well). It's long, complex and gripping - a wonderful sequel.

The Godfather Part III came out later, in 1990, and is often considered a weak film in comparison with the other two. Of course it would be difficult to recapture the previous greatness, but Part III is a very good conclusion to the story and has plenty of qualities in its own right. It's touching and tragic and, like the others, beautiful filmmaking.

A Classic serie with A-list acting
Marlon Brando, Al Pachino, Robert De Niro & Robert Duvall to name a few, just the actors list is incredible.
Very pleased and such a great price as well!

This was a bit of an impulse purchase on my behalf, but I'm not the least bit sorry that I did buy it.

The trilogy is absolutely masterful, there's no doubt about it. I won't go into reviewing the films themselves - the other reviews speak for themselves - but I will say that they (1+2) rank among the best films I've ever seen. And though the 3rd doesn't quite match up to the first two, it's still a great film (although slightly marred by the involvement of a certain Coppola. She really is dreadful).

The transfers are great - vibrant colours (when the moment allows it) and great shades. To fully appreciate this, watch the documentary about the restoration included on disc four, which has a good selection of extras (sadly, the deleted scenes haven't been restored, and look somewhat like VHS-quality). Just watch for example the scene in #2 of Michael looking from his house out across the lake! Absolutely stunning - and the filmography here is very much the cause of this. Amazing.

All in all, I can't recommend the set enough. Get it now!

The case is simple blu-ray quality and nothing special. (No art book or anything like that). However the extras and bonus content are great.

The sound quality is superb but the picture quality is trash. The colours are washed out and blurred. Its such a shame as these movies deserve better. This is however probably the best version you can buy,

Absolute classics!! What more can I say!! Very reasonably priced. Anyone that has not seen these films, buy it. If you have seen it, buy it anyway to show your children in a few years because there will never be films like this again!

So if you have the DVD box set and want to upgrade to Blu Ray , with my experience, don’t. Very little difference in quality of picture, dvd restoration of the film is good enough. Unfortunately Godfather two didn’t play either .
Seller is worth a couple of extra stars for resending a new box set without quibbling.
