Gary Geiecki (pronounced Gee-ecki) is a skilled assassin. He's been an unofficial CIA killer for the past twenty years and has decided to retire. There is no such thing as a truly perfect assassin and Gary was no exception. He was, however, very good. Gary left a wide trail of bodies behind him, over his long and productive career. Riddled with childhood insecurities and social awkwardness Gary desperately tries to move forward with his life after retirement. He quickly finds it is far easier to kill someone else than it is to kill the ghosts of the past. Gary soon learns that what is in the past doesn't always stay there. His greatest enemy... a man thought long dead... is back and seeking vengeance. Gary must now fight for not only his life, but everyone he holds dear and finally put this last ghost to rest. Gary will learn that the old saying You can't go home again isn't exactly true. You can go home again, but you shouldn't.

About the Author

Jonathan Latt was born and raised in Los Angeles California. He has lived overseas, traveled the world and has seen and done many wonderful and idiotic things. He currently resides in a secure bunker somewhere in the San Fernando Valley where he spends his days writing and his nights not writing. Jonathan has two basic moods; blissfully centered and pricing sniper rifles on the Internet. He lives alone and has no children that he is aware of. His hobbies are the same as his passions—the occult, comic books, collecting glass kittens and using his action figures to film stop motion pornography that he sells on the black market to really messed up individuals. He believes in the inherent goodness of all people and that Han shot first. When Jonathan dies he'd like to be cremated and have his ashes turned into an artificial reef, or at the very least, have his ashes shot from a cannon and into a crowd of unsuspecting shoppers, because he knows that would be funny as hell.

Starlite:

"One of this novel’s greatest strengths is its strong and steady narrative focus. Latt’s writing is purposeful, the pacing relentless, and the action virtually nonstop; it all has the glorious sense of wonder associated with Golden Age SF." Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

The Geek:

"Latt is a stylish and confident writer...Quick with both a quip and a memorable quote, he makes the prosaic sound profound..."

The U.S. Review of Books (Joe Kilgore)

:

I truly enjoy writing and it really never feels like work. Okay, mostly never feels like work.

My first novel The Geek, was actually a departure for me. I write and consult mainly in the world of science fiction and fantasy. The Geek, is more of a hardboiled, pulp, thriller and quite dark at times.

Folks who have read my books have said they are definitely filled with words. These words are used in a very clever way to form sentences, which then form paragraphs until a page is just jammed packed with them. I do this repeatedly throughout the novel.

It has been brought to my attention that my use of consonants and vowels to form these words is very helpful and made reading the book easy. As opposed to some writers who will use geometric shapes and small squiggly drawings that resemble bacon to form their words.

I am a lifelong lover of comic books, video games, science fiction and fantasy. My favorite authors include Robert Heinlein, Ernest Cline, William Gibson and Mark Twain.

Once the technology is perfected, I hope to own a robotic chimpanzee that will accompany me on many adventures. We will travel the globe solving crime, eating pie and saving the day.

I think it's safe to assume that we're gonna look pretty cool doing that.

Wow - espionage story that packs a punch and so refreshing for this genre. Although rather dark and gruesome at times, I think that this book is perfect for a young-adult audience. It is gripping and thunders along with a humorous and dark challenging style. The main character Gary is the ultimate Geek, who has sought retribution from years of bullying and sexual repression, and who finds freedom in killing those who he believes deserve it the most. He is the ultimate superhero - he even has the costume to accompany the position. This is an interesting take on a superhero tale that I thoroughly enjoyed and I am going to look out for more of Latt's work.

I loved The Geek, loved it!

I came across Jonathan Latt on Twitter, when he so very nicely told me he had downloaded my book, Honeysuckle Lane, and was enjoying it. I took a look at his profile and got my first glimpse of The Geek. A CIA hit man, the most dangerous super nerd on the planet, I had to give it a go.

Right from the opening sequence, Jonathan had me hooked. His descriptions sparked a movie in my brain, he got straight to the heart of the action, and kept up the pace of things from start to finish. This book is chock-full of genuinely original characters. The violence is brutal, underlined by more than a smidgen of sexual frustration.

Jonathan said he envied my name when he reviewed my book, I’ve got to say, I envy his brain. I looked for a reason to dock him a star, but the honest answer is I couldn’t find one, so I am docking him a star for being sickeningly good. I really enjoyed this book and it fully deserves to become a roaring success.

Years of being picked on for being a 'Geek' at school, Gary seeks his retaliation in the form of becoming an expert assassin. Gary only kills targets whom he believes have committed such heinous crimes that they don't deserve to live. Through these acts, he is getting a certain justification that the world truly needs. Gary is a modern-day superhero, and the plot follows him as he is close to retirement. His superior calls him in on one last job, and what unfolds is an intricate and well developed plot, with elements of humour and some fantastically written characters which make this a fast and action-packed crime thriller of a journey!

Southern California author Jonathan Latt states he is a life long lover of comic books, video games, science fiction and fantasy. Though he writes and consults in science fiction and fantasy THE GEEK ‘is more of a hardboiled, pulp, thriller and quite dark at times. Every moment spent looking at Jonathan Latt’s biographical information results is giggle and guffaws: he is a natural humorist with a wit that whistles.

Jonathan seamlessly introduces his assassin lead character in the first paragraph - ‘Gary had been staring at the old French farmhouse for two hours and seventeen minutes. Every nerve ending in his body was poised to move but he made himself stay completely still. He wanted to run in there and do what he was being paid to do. He also promised himself he’d wait to see if anyone else showed up before he did. He gave himself the arbitrary waiting period of three hours before going in and the clock was ticking down. As far as he knew, the only person inside the farmhouse was his target. He’d followed him from the city center, taking the metro out to the end of the line. The last stop was in a sort of no man’s land that divided Paris from the countryside. From there he’d followed the man south to the outskirts of the Loire Valley. He knew he should go in and put one in the man’s head, but Gary wasn’t in the mood to kill someone today. Today he was in the mood to kill many someones. It was days like today, and targets like this one that made him love his job. At least it helped him remember why he used to love his job.

The provided synopsis distills the fast paced story very well – ‘Gary Geiecki (pronounced Gee-ecki) is a skilled assassin. He's been an unofficial CIA killer for the past twenty years and has decided to retire. There is no such thing as a truly perfect assassin and Gary was no exception. He was, however, very good. Gary will learn that the old saying You can't go home again isn't exactly true. You can go home again, but you shouldn't.’

Jonathan mixes raw language, with plentiful expletives, with a keenly honed sense of dark humor that makes this otherwise frightening tale one that provides a pow! on nearly every page. Moments such as ‘“It’s not Nerd or Dork or Spaz, its Geek… The Geek,” said Gary calmly. He pointed the gun at Sidney’s forehead. “That’s a terrible codename. You should ask for another.”

5.0 out of 5 stars The GEEK is the HERO we need, not the hero we want!

The Geek isn't your typical pulp novel, its a Pulp Novel at its best. Gary "the Geek" Galecki is a new kind of hero boarding on Anti Hero. he's a man who wants to be left alone. he's retired from the CIA and the past he's trying to move on from. He's a man with a murky past and one he's been able to create a new Persona. A ruthless assassin who gets the ladies but down deep he's still the nerdy kid who collected comics and never got the fire. he gets the girl now. He takes whatever he wants. But a story like the Geek doesn't always have the happy ending you'd want or expect. if you want a brutally honest account of a hitman who will do what the job requires. The secret to this book is that all the characters Author Jonathan Latt constructed a visual world of unique characters each with their own fully realised personas. Cross Dressing Germans is just the beginning... The globe trotting flashback stories intertwined with the story currently unfolding blends seamlessly. Some of the most fun in the book is when try returns home to his Hometown to spend time with his childhood friends. It gives us a glimpse of a man who hadn't yet become a harden killer trying to save our country from many many evil doers. I am an avid Reader and this novel deserves a much wider audience. Its better written and constructed then most mass paperback novels. Once i started this book I couldn't stop.

One piece of advice when you pick up The Geek - go ahead and call in sick now. With a delicious blend of dark humor mixed with psychological thriller we follow the tale of Gary Geiecki. Having grown up as a bullied dysfunctional geek unable to retaliate due to his mother’s sworn pacifism he has now transformed himself into a lethal, ruthless and skilled CIA assassin. Problem solved except for the gnawing and unfamiliar sensation of becoming “whole” again from 20 years of killing - only the bad guys. The question now is can he get out of the business and start a new life. If you think you know the answer to that you don’t.

Through a series of highly addicting twists and turns we find out Gary has imbued the wrath of a couple named Greta and Heinrich who can’t seem to forgive a .22 to the head leaving them only wounded and presumed dead.
This oversight unleashes a sadistic revenge plot on Gary and everyone in his world that he now realizes he holds near and dear. In a disarming revelation we see no one is safe not even the innocent or the pacifists due to circumstances set into motion by his own hand.

One of the many great things about “ The Geek” are the complex characters. Greta and Heinrich, like most diabolical bad guys, are convinced they are really out saving the world. Therefore the self righteous, psychotic cross dresser and his gorgeous murderous girlfriend feel they are given license to wage war using a wide variety of unique, evil and tortuous methods on anyone standing in their way.

As far as the lead character the author creates an riveting character arc portraying Gary as the proverbial lone wolf hero realizing late in the game that he really does want the life that he has only ever run from.

Every chapter reads like a scene in a movie written with such a distinct visual style I felt swept away from beginning to end. No one or nothing is quite what it seems. Right up until the last cliff hanging moment.

The Geek by Jonathan Latt is a story of an assassin who is trying to get out of the life, but can't seem to escape his past. Geek is the code name for Gary, the assassin behind the legend of the Geek. He earned the nickname because of his last name, but it throws his targets off of just how deadly and dangerous he really is. The story begins with Gary watching a farmhouse just outside of Paris. A man named Sidney is inside, and Sidney is responsible for the deaths of many Americans as well as over seventy children in Nigeria. Gary enjoys killing, but he is really looking forward to killing this guy. He goes in and kills Sidney along with two other men who were working with him. Once done, Geek heads back to the states where he runs into his CIA handler. He has one last mission to go on before his contract is up and he can retire. But, we all know that the last mission is always the hardest. In this case, the Geek is going to find that the career of an assassin dos not end when the contract runs out. It ends when all your enemies are dead, or you are.
The Geek was a very fun story. Geek is obviously a highly skilled killer, but he also has a fun side that I feel many readers will be able to connect to. He wears a Captain America T-shirt when taking the life of the bad guys: a sort of calling card to let them know who sent him. He also is a big comic book buff who hates wearing suits, two things that young readers will be able to identify with. The novel moved quickly and only had a few minor editing problems. I look forward to more from this author.

Interesting plot about a contracted killer wanting to retire but his boss urges him to take on a new mission. Recalling the loyalty of their friendship, Gary Geiecki agreed to it - one last glory. His morals don't really define him except that he kills with intent and only those really bad guys that he is contracted for. On a plane with a deep convert op, Gary Geiecki uses his alias and befirends an attractive woman on the plane from the US to UK. The past weaves a web of lies and spy stuff that develops the characters associated with the "vengeance".
After developments of conversation and reaching the right information, he decides his seat mate is a spy.
Once in UK, they keep close to each other in a secretive way undetected as much as possible. The story develops from there highly intriguing and grasping for more developments. Feeling like the reader is becoming the character and socializing if just in their mind.

Recommend reading this book slowly and over time as its 69 chapters - a bit daunting for a KINDLE but well satisfied in its plot ending.
