The Evil Within is directed by Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil heritage which is likely why the game had attracted a considerable degree of hype prior to its release. Survival horror as a genre is increasingly action orientated. Does this title deviate from that formula, or does it never get away from Resident Evil's shadow in the overall construction of the game?

In The Evil Within you play as Sebastian Castellanos, a police officer within Krimson City's ranks. Sebastian himself has an interesting back story with weaknesses and flaws within his own personal character and this part of the story is moved along through collectibles which can be found throughout the game. The game starts with a police investigation but things soon take a turn for the worse and you're transported into a world that is unsettling, confusing and twisted. The understanding of why this world exists and how it adapts, in addition to questioning if it really exists at all are just some of the mysteries raised by the story.

To turn focus to how the game itself plays it is easy and fun to play. There are a variety of weapons such as a shotgun, revolver, sniper rifle and a bow that can be upgraded with different types of agony bolts. These bolts can be used in a number of ways and do different things such as using fire and ice which are best used in some instances against some enemies as opposed to others. There are plentiful enemies in the game and a few in particular stand out. Occasionally enemies drop a green gel like substance which can be used to upgrade Sebastian's abilities and weapons. One slight gripe is that it isn't possible to buy ammunition, but scarce resources work well in this genre.

I've played for about 5 hours so far, and as far as glitches ect go, everything is good.
The graphics are to be expected from a 360, but I care more about the gameplay and story.
The story is interesting, in my opinion it isn't a stereotypical horror.
The gameplay seems smooth, there's a good mixture of stealth and fighting; it isn't as easy as it looks, it definitely makes you think and find good tactics.
Overall, I would recommend this game. I did not buy from Amazon, but I prefer Amazon's reviewing system.

Not a patch on Resident Evil 4 but if you loved that then you will still get a kick out of this, the game is bat poop crazy in some of it's attempted scares and it's these unique turn of events which happen give the game it's charm

The evil within is awesome! the environment, the gameplay, storyline and graphics. it kinda reminds me of silent hill games which is my favorite! no wonder I loved this one either. I waited for this game to be released ever since I saw it in amazon few months ago and I per-ordered it, and I found it worth the waiting and money.
I recommend this game for any horror games fans! :)

Not your typical Survival Horror Game. You'll either love it or hate it. I personally loved it for it's gameplay and early setting later in the game it goes down the similar route as Resident Evil 6 did but it dosen't make it awful. Only gripe would be the bland characters and sequel bate ending. For this price however I'd highly recommend.

I love games like this, it's unsettling and you are always on the edge on your seat while playing, well I was anyway. I found this game nerve wracking, some what difficult in places but it's amazing. I also love the gore and the really creppy and werid vibe that the game has to it. It's one that once I started playing it, it was the only one I played for a while. I geuinely think this game is amazing, it reminded me very much of The last of us, a game I haven't played for ages and really need to go back to at some point as I never got round to finishing it. But yeah, this game is truly a great horror that does a better job than most horror films nowadays. Worth checking out.

Prepare yourself and your senses for this thrill of a horror. Best played with the lights turned off and surround sound enabled. The game starts of a bit strange and dare i say albeit, expecting it to be a normal zombie shooter without any depth or story, but if you keep playing for a couple of hours the story intensifies, as does the level of horror and freight. The graphics are good and alot of attention has been paid to small details like walking on broken glass however there is still alot to be improved in respect of realism and fluidity in the graphics. This game is better than expected if you prefer single player games, dont expect miracles unless you totally imerse your senses into the story. Only then will you truly appreciate the work that has been put into the game.
