The next chapter in the What-If? saga of the world that Nagato Yuki made in "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" but that got cancelled out by time travelling. In this series that never happened and everyone is just regular people. So this series follows the budding romance between Kyon and Yuki that never happened (apart from one tiny smile).

As such, Haruhi plays a back-seat role (for now anyway). Clearly there is still some chemistry between her and Kyon and the possibility of a love triangle but, basically, she's too nice (?!) to let that happen so this is a gentle flowering of romance between Yuki and Kyon with a sprinkle of humour and the inevitable Haruhi-inspired craziness. This continues right up to the last page which is a cliffhanger out of nowhere and, in a spin-off series, could actully mean exactly what it seems to mean. Be warned...

But the main story is a sweet love story, nicely told and with genuinely touching moments and lots of bathos. I wonder if this was a story that Nagaru-san always wanted to tell but didn't manage because he was derailed early on by a certain unstoppable goddess?
